The scent of vacation and sunny days, I want to go to the Cote d'Azur!
Who is Veronique Gabai anyway?!
...I thought to myself when I stumbled upon a video by Jeremy Fragrance on YouTube... well, I’m not really a big fan of his, as there are better YouTubers who describe fragrances better and pique my curiosity. But I had time and started searching the web. After "Eau du Jour" and ....Veronique Gabai.
I had never heard the name before, but then I found out that the lady has been in the perfume industry for a long time and has created many of the most popular perfumes in the world at Estee Lauder. I was particularly interested in her fragrance "Eau du Jour." Maybe because I have always been attracted to Mediterranean notes and summery scents. But I just wanted to move away from the classic D&G "Light Blue Intense" and have a fragrance that not everyone wears.
I must honestly say, I was shocked when I looked into the prices: 250 euros for 85 ml, something like that is not yet in my small but fine perfume collection. Not bad, I thought, you really have to be in love with the scent to invest in something like that. Especially not blind. But since the fragrances are from Grasse and are supposed to be of high quality, I looked for ways to test it and must say that I found it on Net-a-porter.
I actually wanted to test only "Eau du Jour," but I discovered the
"Escape to the Cote d'Azur Discovery Set" with six different fragrances, which I ordered last week after much consideration. I eagerly awaited the set and practically snatched it from the delivery person today!
I sat down calmly and immediately searched for my mini-tester "Eau du Jour," sprayed it on my wrist, and tried to let the opening unfold: first, it was piercing!!! And I thought to myself: "oh God, I expected too much!" The citrus notes were almost a bit sharp, and I felt like I had inhaled toilet cleaner!
But well, one shouldn’t be misled by the top note, my favorite aunt in the perfumery always says, so I waited a few minutes. And then.... then it got better and better and really beautiful.....
Finally, the mandarin emerged in connection with the bergamot in a softer and gentler form, while the lime was somewhat pushed into the background. Above all, the sage, which somehow mixed with the citrus notes. I like sage. Have you ever tried fresh pasta in sage butter? It has a cozy feel to it for me... The scent became somehow "softer" and gentler, but didn’t lose its zest. The clary sage turned the fragrance in a more harmonious direction, which I really liked. I don’t notice the woods in the fragrance that much, but I must also say that my nose is nothing like that of a connoisseur or even a perfumer *laughs*
The longevity is not bad for a citrus scent from Ms. Gabai, I get about 5 - 6 hours out of it. The sillage, however, is moderate. You really have to get close to me to get the impression of the Cote d´Azur.
For me, "Eau du Jour" is more of a perfume for women than for men. For ladies who enjoy lightness and freshness in summer and want to start the day positively. Ideal for summer vacations or as a signature scent. If you like a mix of citrus fruits and soft woods paired with sage, you are definitely in the right place. Whether one wants to indulge in the bottle for 250 euros is another matter. :-)
I, for one, will think about it some more ;-)
