The Difference Lies in the Details
I hadn't planned to test Lumière d'Iris at all. An extremely attentive and nice salesperson included a sample for me because she had read that I like iris fragrances. I already own fragrances with iris and have been very happy with my iris classic Infusion d'Iris by Prada. After the first spray, I thought it was very nice, but I didn't need to own it since I already have the Prada scent. However, I decided to spray both fragrances to make a precise comparison - one arm Prada - the other arm Gabai. I'm surprised that the sillage and longevity of Infusion d'Iris are rated better. I perceive Lumière d'Iris much more intensely after the dry down. Both are powdery, but Lumière d'Iris is significantly fresher. A creamy freshness. Both fragrances contain neroli/orange blossom nuances. I find these much more prominent in Lumière d'Iris. I generally get tired of these nuances very quickly, but here it is quite pleasant for me and not annoying. Prada's iris is generally more subdued and becomes woodier after the dry down. In the top note, Lumière d'Iris appears greener. Is this the carrot iris that everyone is talking about? But this doesn't last. Those who want a fragrance with prominent powdery iris, which is overall rather quiet, are better off with Prada. Anyone who likes iris but finds it insufficient on its own will do well with Lumière d'Iris. The price-performance ratio clearly favors Infusion d'Iris. The Gabai fragrances are still a bit more expensive. Perhaps it's something to consider for sharing when my Prada runs out.
