The calm ocean.
First contact on YouTube, studied at Parfumo, ordered a sample and after some back and forth decided to buy. And with good reason: a few splashes of Pacific Rock Moss will transport you instantly to this imaginary beach with its turquoise sea, where the sun shimmers and breaks through the sun. You close your eyes, take a deep breath of the sea that the wind carries to you and the spray that it blows over to you cools your skin pleasantly. And you say to yourself: I want to stay on that beach. But the scent won't let you stay forever. Pacific Rock Moss is a really nice summer scent, if not the most beautiful summer scent I know. But much of the pleasure it will give is entirely a matter of imagination. Monster surfing is not. Soon it will retreat like the sea under the spell of the tides. And suddenly you know why the Pacific Ocean is called the Pacific Ocean.

And yet I would like to forgive him his rather weak sillage and not excessive durability. Pacific Rock Moss is much too beautiful, much too unusual and - yes - unique for that. What we all didn't have to endure these boring citrus waters summer after summer. Arbitrary, monotonous, smelled a hundred times. This one makes it different and that's a good thing: Pacific Rock Moss starts off with a citrus freshness that instantly becomes softer and sweeter. The green tones of moss are definitely perceptible and it retains its aquatic character throughout. All this makes it an excellent summer scent. And gives the wearer a beautiful, independent character of freshness that is certainly unrivalled in the world of fragrances.

Nevertheless again the hint of the just average sillage and durability. Multiple spraying or filling into a small bottle on the way is almost obligatory. And so this candidate reminds me of many a Goutal fragrance: the initial enthusiastic "wow" turns into a "Where ... has he gone? But so what - then you just get it back with a few splashes, because it's so damn good that it's worth it.

Mysterious & elegant companion through life

The signature scent. I think we choose it because we think it's what we think we see in ourselves. And we want to be perceived as such to some degree. But perhaps it is also much simpler: We choose as signature scent the one we simply like the most - and therefore want to wear it all the time.

When I started to deal with the Tom Ford Private Blends a few years ago, Oud Wood hit my nerve 100 percent and clearly outperformed the not badly positioned competition. And so Oud Wood took his place as number 1, became my most worn fragrance. You spray it on your skin and there's this masculine, self-contained "Here I am". The woody notes are flattered by the spiciness. Here the scent becomes more sweet, but for me it remains a cool caress. At the same time it is perceptible to the environment without wanting to scream. It is simply there, that fits to this fragrance and is statement enough. That's why the Sillage is perfectly met, even if it is not outstanding. Oud Wood lasts a good 6 hours on my skin, then it is only perceptible close to my body. If there was anything to criticize at all, it would be just here, with the durability

I find his potential to be able to take on basically any situation in life astonishing: Whether on an evening date, a formal appointment in a suit, in your free time, on vacation on the other side of the world - Oud Wood is always sitting, always radiating his calming, powerful elegance. He never seems out of place to me. Even when the summer temperatures rise above 30 degrees and some other nose-flatterers threaten to overwhelm either the wearer or at least those around him, Oud Wood keeps a cool head. Thanks to its woody notes, subtle freshness and projection that is not excessive but well balanced, it is still wearable even in scorching heat. And thus, as I said, basically a perfect allrounder for the whole year.

I still find it difficult to describe the scent, to say what exactly I perceive and when. But I think that's exactly what makes it attractive. The real works of art don't reveal themselves in every last detail. They remain somewhat mysterious and enigmatic, leaving the imagination forever open to interpretation.

And just as little as one might wish for a fragrance, we do not want to be completely readable by everyone. We have our secrets, we have deep thoughts and feelings that only we know. And we change on our path through life. Certain props of our lifestyle accompany us on this journey. If you are looking for a companion in fragrant form, who is elegant but never boring, Torm Ford's "Oud Wood" will surely hit the mark.

Pretty good.
I would like to connect the first comment on this platform, which I value so highly, with a noble goal - and strive for a salvation for "New York Oud". Because I find it with a rating of just 7.1 most violently underrated. I do this for a very simple reason, because this sensual combination of roses and oud is one of my absolute favourite scents.

Of course, the scents of Bond No. 9 are not exactly bargains. They are often noisy and sometimes equally synthetic, olfactory flavored split waters. But it is precisely this fragrance that draws very stylishly and elegantly from the polarizing affair. And from the first test on my skin to the third 100 ml bottle, I can only think of positive things about it.

The first squirt. Rose. Rose meets honey and plum. I love the scent of roses, have no less than 14 varieties on my balcony, of course this note catches me. But this rose here has a heavy lust that blends with the sweetness of honey and plum. The oud somehow keeps the back and forth of this love play in the middle. Seldom have I experienced a rose scent so well, so wearably balanced on the unisex level. My impressions coincided with those of others: What are you wearing. But you smell good. You smell nice. Sexy. Yummy. I don't primarily scent myself for others, but when I do, I like to take those real-life likes with me. So he seems to be a big hit with the ladies. At least the ones I socialize with.

New York Oud smells soft and warm and attractive. It has an enormous durability and sillage. Apart from the summer, I find it wearable at any time. But the sweet heaviness is not necessarily something for the office. But a date, gallery or theatre visit is certainly a suitable setting for this fragrance.

But let's get back to the honourable mention. As a fan of roses, the passage from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" comes to my mind when Juliet wants to say to Romeo that it doesn't matter what name he bears, be it that of the enemy house Montague:
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.

So I would be interested to know if this rose scent would be better rated if it had a different name. The price level of the Bond fragrances, no matter what, the enormous durability of the bottle will wear you out for a while. If you google and compare, "New York Oud" in particular can sometimes be significantly reduced. Then you'll have a chic flacon standing in your home walls. And no matter what name is on the bottle, there's a pretty nice, pretty sensual, pretty good scent in it.
