Wow Wow and again WOW!
So, first of all, the purchase of Guerlain - Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia was an absolute impulse buy and also a blind buy.
When I read words like “limited” and see the panicked comments in the forum about where and if the fragrance can still be found anywhere, all my alarm bells go off and my reason shuts down. If the main ingredient of a fragrance is supposed to be divine vanilla, then I simply can't help myself and have to have it!
That was also the case with Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia.
Two days ago, I was able to snag a bottle from my trusted online retailer and was emotionally somewhere between: “when will the package finally arrive, I want to tear it open!” and “I’ll send it back unopened”.
Because comments like “old-fashioned”, “grandma” etc. made me shudder and I didn’t really feel any anticipation. Because let’s be honest: I really don’t feel like an old-fashioned grandma.
But well, today the little package finally arrived and was immediately unwrapped.
First of all, the packaging and the bottle are a real eye-catcher. Luxurious as you would expect from Guerlain.
Millésime Vanilla Planifolia comes in the familiar Shalimar attire.
I would describe the scent as a powdery, warm, sensual, and wuuuonderful vanilla cloud.
I find nothing old-fashioned here. I only know the regular Shalimar from my mom back in the day, but I can't smell it in this one. When I first smelled MVP, I thought: “This scent seems familiar to you.” And yes, I know what it reminds me of: the American Cream Conditioner from Lush. It is also beautifully vanilla-scented, and I loved it back then!
On the skin, MVP unfolds wonderfully and warmly. A beautiful cozy scent, especially for autumn and the upcoming winter days.
I believe I can alleviate the fears of all the ladies who are worried about turning into an old-fashioned grandma with Shalimar Millésime Vanilla Planifolia.
Anyone who loves vanilla should definitely test this fragrance!

Noble, Dry Vanilla
In search of "THE" vanilla scent, I tried out some great samples of various fragrances here. However, none have really knocked me off my feet so far.
And then came Magnificent Gold: Pure, dry vanilla meets absolutely wearable white oud. A combination that invites you to dream.
One searches in vain for an incredible scent development here, but sometimes that's not necessary when a fragrance is simply beautiful.
Magnificent Gold is like a warm, cozy scarf that wraps you up on cold days. It is by no means too sweet or boozy; rather, I would describe the vanilla here as clear and pure, without much fuss.
I would rate the longevity as mediocre. An astonishing, long-lasting sillage is not present here, but it holds well on clothing and hair.
So, if you're looking for a noble vanilla scent without a significant development, penetrating sweetness, and frills, you should definitely give Magnificent Gold a try!

First Grandma, then Cuddle Factor
In the still very cold spring about a year ago, the desire for a new fragrance hit me again.
It had to be something special, something that would make people turn their heads on the street. I wanted my fellow humans to be captivated by an unbeatable sillage.
During countless online searches, I stumbled upon Grand Soir at the turquoise D.
The reviews sounded promising, and especially the fragrance pyramid piqued my curiosity.
Amber, Tonka, Vanilla? This must be a scent for me, I thought.
Since I was already planning to order the Holy Grail BR540, Grand Soir could join in blindly.
Just 3 days later, I received the message that my package had been dropped off at my trusted kiosk. I could hardly wait until it was finally 4 PM and I could finish work. Off to the kiosk.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am a very impatient person when it comes to packages and orders. So, in I dashed to the kiosk, grabbed the package, and back to the car. The package was immediately ripped open, revealing the familiar BR540 and: Grand Soir. I was so curious that I opened it in the car and sprayed it on my wrist.
And then ''..phew.. um? What is this? This is supposed to be the debut of 'Grand Soir'?'' It smelled somewhat outdated and like grandma at the start. I really didn’t want to smell like that, and surely no one would turn around here. At least not in a positive sense. ''No thanks, this is going straight back!''
Since I have about a 1-hour drive from work to home, I kept sniffing my wrist, and the closer I got to home, the more beautiful it developed.
It became warmer, more vanilla-like, yes, really cuddly.. I was still skeptical. I still couldn’t quite understand the great reviews from other fragrance enthusiasts.
Once home, I immediately introduced my boyfriend to the two new acquisitions. The BR540 went on the other wrist. Then he got to sniff. ''Well, it smells kind of strange, it's okay, but it doesn't have to be'' Alright, so the BR540 didn’t blow him away. Then came the other arm, and now Grand Soir had its big debut on the home sofa: ''Mhhh.. wow.. I really like this one. Keep it, it smells great on you, somehow sexy, biteable.'' So the man had made his judgment.
And it was true: By now, GS had developed into a true amber dream on my wrist. Warm and cuddly yet still special. Grandma had disappeared, and GS has since then become one of my absolute favorites.
Even today, on a rainy Monday morning in June, I wear it and snuggle up in my joggers while working from home. Not a big evening, but an absolute feel-good factor - Thank you, Grand Soir!

A Fragrant Encounter in Covent Garden
This is my first review, so please forgive me if it’s not as beautifully embellished as those by experienced perfume enthusiasts.. :)
In February 2020, just before Corona was set to take over our lives, my fiancé and I were in London together. It was supposed to be a few lovely days in my favorite city.
A must-see when visiting London is Covent Garden, among other places. Here you can eat wonderfully and visit small, fine shops. Since my fiancé had never been to London before, this was one of our first destinations on our trip.
After eating, we strolled through the large hall, past the many beautiful little boutiques and shops. And then:
''..Wait a minute..? What was that..?'' A beautiful, undefinable, almost magical scent wafted into our noses. ''What was that?'' We looked around and found ourselves in front of a small perfumery. The scent wouldn’t leave me, and I would have loved to browse in that little shop and search for THAT perfume, but the small store was so crowded that I quickly set that thought aside and we moved on.
But it was a lovely, undefinable scent..
A few days later, towards the end of our trip, we were wandering down Regent Street. A bit of shopping and strolling past the shops.. what could be better?
And suddenly, there it was again: THAT scent! Right in front of us, this fragrance was being wafted out onto the street through a fine tube from the shop. Which shop? Penhaligon's London!
Penhaligon's? Never heard of it before.
The store was almost completely empty, so we went in and immediately asked a lovely staff member what that scent was that had hypnotized us into the shop from outside!?
She showed us the little seducer, and there it was: Halfeti.
We sprayed the scent on ourselves, and immediately that incomparable fragrance filled our noses. A bit of something herbal - Was that Oud? - A bit of rose, but also something soft and vanilla-like joined in. Simply a beautiful scent.
With a price of over 200 pounds/euros, however, it wasn’t exactly cheap, but definitely worth its price!
Still, we initially decided against a purchase, but the lovely staff member gave us a silk cloth, on which Halfeti was generously immortalized as a keepsake.
Even weeks after our trip, we kept smelling that silk cloth and reminiscing about beautiful London. ''Oh darling, this scent is so special and just out of this world, isn’t it?'' How right he is.
When my fiancé had his birthday in September, I quickly knew what it should be: Along with a nice hoodie, he got to enjoy his own 100 ml of Halfeti.
Just him? No - I also love wearing the scent. A successful win-win situation, I would say, right?
London, oh London, when we wear Halfeti, you suddenly feel so close again..
