A Warm, Cozy Hug
If Zoologist makes you uneasy due to the reputation of being too artsy and too experimental, try Harvest Mouse. This is one of the most accessible fragrances from the house.
The notes don't morph staying quite consistent: Vanilla, root beer, hay with a light dash of cloves and chamomile. It really feels like a warm hug from a good friend.
This is slightly gourmand, but not in a way which wouldn't be offensive to those who are opposed to those type of scents. It's beautifully blended and not too cloying making it wearable for the masses.
The silage and longevity are very light, so you will need to apply this one every 3-4 hours or at least I needed to with my chemistry, but I am happy I added this to my collection before the beautiful days of summer which is the perfect time to wear this scent. That and early fall.
I would give this beauty a solid 8/10, only losing points due to the projection and longevity.
A Green, Earthy Autumn Scent
Northern Cardinal is very different from the other birds of the Zoologist collection as it doesn't lean on florals as much as greenery and earth making it more of an Autumn scent.
i don't know if this scent reminds me of the bird as much as it does the environment that the cardinal lives in. Initially, Northern Cardinal is composed of a blast of greenery, earth, rose, leather and a bit of brightness of lemon and bergamont. Over time, the rose and leather fade a bit leaving a solid green earthy, scent, but the brightness remains.
I think this is a nice safe scent for Zoologist with good longevity, but not one that I would reach for that often as I have lighter green scents that I much prefer, but this may be an option if you are on the market for a scent profile similar to this one.
I Was Not Prepared
I found Sacred Scarab to be one of the more difficult fragrances of Zoologist. It lasts a long times, but for me, there was always an animal note which I could not shake off my clothing or skin: fecal and urine.
Other notes came forward during my five hour testing, mostly myrrh and hairspray (aldehydes), lemon, salt and fecal/urine notes. After that, I had to remove the scent as it became a lot.
I will say that the sillage and longevity were great if you are into strong, long lasting scents, but this one will be a tough one for many. It's a great art piece, but is not for the masses.
Zoologist Making Eucalyptus and Menthol Wearable
Wow, I was surprised to like this one as much as I did. The first few minutes are an intense blast of eucalyptus and menthol which are two notes I don't normally like, but if you give it time, Koala morphed into a bright soapy, honeyed, eucalyptus and menthol treat. What I like about this one is that the incense adds a darkness to the scent making it so beautiful
The longevity is mid tier and will need to be resprayed at around the 4 hour mark for the upkeep, but you will then have to live through the eucalyptus and menthol blast zone again. Your work neighbors may not love this.
I was really surprised to love this scent as much as I did. It's really difficult to make me love eucalyptus and menthol, but Zoologist did it. So if you are like me, get a sample and give it a try. You might actually enjoy it!
A Warm Dusty Lightbulb on a Rainy Day
I am so in love with this scent. I adore vanilla scents so much, but it's hard to make them unique as they have been created many times over in so many different ways. Clue found a way to create a modern vanilla profile, and I am obsessed.
When first sprayed there is a peppery vanilla and sandalwood scent which slowly morphs into something quite special. I don't know how Clue did it, but there is a hint of electricity and humidity as the smell of dust burning on an old school light bulb comes to the forefront. The vanilla is always present but more of an underlying hum. This is such a unique scent and brought up a lot of nostalgia of reading in my grandparent's old house in the middle of the woods.
The longevity is there, but know that this is not a powerhouse by any means. This is meant to be a small bubble of scent much like a bulb giving off a small amount of light and heat. Of course, more sprays will give it a bit more oomph, but I think this scent would lose something if put on too strong.
I couldn't stop smelling my wrist all day the first time I wore this. I just couldn't get over the electric feel of this one. What a great way to elevate vanilla. This has quickly become a favorite!
