The 1980s re-interprets the chypre-bomb
Very 1950s, opens as big chypre bomb! It quickly turns very chypre-floral indeed, and reminds me of Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. It’s the late 1980’s reinterpreting the chypre perfumes of the early 20th Century.
It turns down some of the ‘cat-piss’ smell that the early 20th century chypres can overwhelm with and turns up the floral and oriental notes.
A very compelling perfume, definitely worth it at this price point!

A Beautiful and Affordable Scent to Play a Supporting Character in Your Collection
Initial impressions are spicy, with the natural sweetness of flowers. The scent seems very well 'mixed', without individual discernible notes. Sort of smoothly spicy, with an overall impression of a nice, subtle and mature fragrance. It smells like I should be wearing a velvet dress, with my hair up, and sitting down at a nice restaurant for a date.
After five or so minutes, the spices face away and the flowers come to the forefront.
After an hour or so, it felt like the flowers intensified.
Some of my favorite scents are upfront and demand attention. YSL's Opium definitely inspires one to think 'what are you wearing?' upon notice. A scent like YSL Opium or Guerlain's Mitsouko or Mugler's Alien demand to be the star of the show. Boucheron feels like a gentle background color. It enhances the scene in the front, but doesn't distract enough to draw attention to itself.
At the current affordable 2023 price point, Boucheron is also a fragrance that can be worn freely without financial stress or feeling that it must be saved for a special occasion.

Velvet, shadows and drama. A perfume for a woman who knows her mind.
A woman in black velvet with elbow-length opera gloves, or a panther?
Look, but don’t touch. Unless she touches you first, and then be careful of her claws.
This is a woman with bank accounts in Switzerland, a discrete seamstress, a standing weekly floral order, and a private cove accessible by rowboat - for dumping bodies.
Wear this and look perfect at the opera, sitting across from an old flame who owes you a favor, and sweating while you bury your extra passports and hard currency in your backyard.
You’ll feel like you just stepped out of a midcentury novel or film, and you’re either the protagonist or the one that got away.
Timeless, a classic for a woman who knows what she wants and how to get it.
Unbelievable storytelling and feeling at this price point. I paid about $15 USD for 3.4 oz. I think everyone should have at least one fragrance in their arsenal which makes them feel like this one.
Buy it on the grey market - which is very appropriate - and wear it on those occasions where you want to feel like a dame with a secret or a dark past.

Becoming the hummingbird
Very simple, in the sense that it really replicates smelling standing outside and smelling a wild honeysuckle flower still on the branch.
At the same time, it’s quietly complex because it’s truly emulating a natural scent and moment. It’s the smell of deep forest, a fresh bloom, a clear and beautiful spring day, and nothing but nature around you.
You feel like you’re the hummingbird, sticking your beak right into the honeysuckle and drinking deeply.

A beautiful impressionist masterpiece of fruity florals
Update:
9/2025
This seemed to be discontinued from production, so I grabbed a new sample to check if I wanted a bottle before it sold out. What a disappointment! The delicacy is gone, there’s only a candy-sweet simple perfume. I don’t know if my tastes changed, or if the perfume formulation doesn’t chemically hold up over time.
Forget buying a full bottle, I’m giving away this sample to a friend. What a disappointment.
Original Review: 12/2024 The opening is flowers and happiness, sweet like honeysuckle. If you could bite into a flower that had turned into a fruit, this is what it would taste like. An exuberance of flowers, like in Fantasia: Pastoral Symphony (1940) with the pegasi and the nymphs romping in the Elysian fields.
The heart notes are a balanced jasmine, more self-contained than Alien. A bit of pear remains.
I hope this fragrance stays in production for a long long time. It’s got the unhinged opening floral punch of Alien, but with a full bouquet of flowers instead of a single strong Jasmine note. The middle is pleasant and calming, like having a few flowers at peak bloom tucked behind your ear or pinned at your collar.
If Alien is a strong abstract modernist artwork of a single jasmine flower, Supra Florale is an Impressionist painting of a garden in bloom
