Not just for cowboys....
Lonestar Memories by Andy Tauer

When I first smelled Lonestar Memories some years back, I thought too masculine, too smoky, what is this? Even the description scared me:

"The scent of a lonesome rider, wearing old jeans and leather jacket, after a long day on the horse in the dry woods, preparing his coffee on the open, smoky fire."

It seemed far too manly for the ladies and I always considered it the most challenging Tauer, and one I would just have to envy others for appreciating.

(Insert screeching brakes sound effect and fast forward to fall of 2017)

....What??

Was I mad? It's gorgeous! And now that my nose has become acclimated to unisex fragrances over the years and Andy's style and "Tauerade", I realize how I almost missed out on such a gorgeous fragrance. Smoky leather, resins, labdanum, sandalwood and florals. The dry down is beautiful and comforting and so "real".

And no, it isn't just for cowboys. It's for cowgirls, too. And even people who have never even been on a horse. It's simply a beautiful fragrance. Saddle, campfire, and Marlboro Man not required.

Miss Dior: The vintage original
Miss Dior is spectacular, it's magical, it's timeless....it is absolute fragrance perfection. For me at least. It is the epitome of all that I love about fragrance.

There is something about it that feels so well thought out, so perfected, and it doesn't even matter what vintage form you get it in. You could choose one blind folded and it's gonna be good. I have multiple forms from different time periods and I would be hard pressed to choose a favorite. I have EDT, EDP, cologne and extrait. Most of my Miss Dior is vintage but I also have Originale EDT which is very well done and smells like "Miss Dior" and I also have the Originale extrait, which is possibly the best current powdery green chypre on earth and it doesn't even have oakmoss. It smells vintage and like true Miss Dior only astonishingly potent. I have the vintage parfum also and I'm telling you, the new extrait is phenomenal. That said, there is something about the vintage cologne that is truly special. There is a softness to it yet a touch of masculinity and the fighting yin and yang of the two leaves me nearly speechless with delight.

I hate to go on and on and hype this like it's the perfume version of the Hope Diamond but it sort of is. If you like old school style, if you like powder, if you like chypre, if you like PERFUME period and haven't tried this yet it is almost an abomination.

A Goodnight Kiss: Nostalgic Bliss
To simplify it, A Goodnight Kiss is a classic style powdery floral aldehyde. But nothing about this fragrance can be simple, not for me at least. For starters, the way I came about owning it may make me a bit biased and emotional. Second, I know this was a fragrance made to recreate the scent of Roja's mother as she kissed him goodnight, and she is resting in peace. So, there is nothing simple about it. But it does smell exactly like a woman, a prim motherly lady, and how she would smell in close proximity. Her floral perfume, her powder, her lipstick and the natural human smell of musk we all get toward the end of the day. This is the smell of a goodnight kiss. A sweet kiss, a loving kiss, a gentle kiss. The meaningful kind. It is the smell of love.

The iris is gentle and glorious, the powder is a very realistic rice powder scent. If you have ever worn rice powder, it's unmistakable. There is prominent ambergris that gives it warmth, it's never too floral, there is a human musky quality to it. Everything about this fragrance is human. So, it makes it a bit emotional to wear it. For me at least.

It is elegant, it's understated, it's classic and it's very refined. It's comforting and I feel a range of emotions wearing it.

A Goodnight Kiss is a captivating fragrance. And it smells like powder, it smells like flowers, it smells like soft leather, it smells like musk....and it smells like love, nostalgia and beauty. It smells like a gift. And it smells like a memory. And I feel like a princess wearing it.

And there is no price on those things.

Le Sillage Blanc: White Bandit
For me, Le Sillage Blanc is the brighter alter ego of Bandit. Where Bandit goes dark, Le Sillage Blanc brings light. It's more airy, more sparkling, more ethereal, more modern, but make no mistake, the Bandit is there. The greens are just fresher and the entire feel is different, but it's like the greatest flanker of Bandit you could imagine.

Le Sillage Blanc is like Bandit in a different mood. Imagine Bandit as a dark, stormy forest, Le Sillage Blanc is like the light and sun peeping in between the branches. The green lush forest is still there, but with a glimmer of sparkling brightness and joy. It's like Bandit on Prozac.

There are elements of Cabochard and Azuree, among other classic green chypres, but I find it most closely related to vintage Bandit (yellow box) but masterfully reworked into a modern, fresher, lighter (and more crowd pleasing) version. This is my favorite category of fragrance and I have a new one to add to my favorite list. This is gorgeous and I'm so excited that the classic chypre is being reintroduced to possibly a new audience via Dusita. If you love the chypres it is being compared to, you will fall in love with Le Sillage Blanc.

It's one of the nicest green chypres I have ever smelled. I have anticipated trying Le Sillage Blanc more than any fragrance in quite some time and sometimes a large build up can lead to a let down. But not in this case. It's stunning and I am beyond thrilled to see someone bringing this style back into the forefront, in a new way yet still retaining a classic, vintage feel. 10/10 for me.

Eau My Soul, A Warm Group Hug
Eau My Soul by 4160 Tuesdays and Facebook Group Eau My Soul -

I just want to say how special this fragrance is to me, in more ways than one. From the incredible scent right down to how it all came about, with all the notes chosen by the wonderful members of our Facebook group "Eau My Soul". And it could not have turned out more beautifully.

It's warm, it's cozy, yet despite the way the notes might sound, it's airy and there is an almost ethereal quality to it. It's full bodied yet breezy. It's an all occasion and all season fragrance with a casual feel. But it's also.....sexy! Yes, it's our "warm group hug" (as we have nicknamed it) but this is not just a friend zoned hug! Oh, no. ;) Yes, it's friendly, and yes, it's comforting, but it's also quietly seductive in a warm and friendly way.

Despite the heavy sounding notes, Eau My Soul has a weightless feel, it is light on its toes like Fred Astaire, dancing about the air around you. But staying close, inviting others to come closer. Like something you would share with someone special, like during a hug. I don't think a "hug" screams "loud", a hug is more cozy. And Eau My Soul is just that, ever present yet unobtrusive.

The sandalwood is obviously high quality, super smooth and gently purrs. I also get a noticeable amount of cognac, it's very present but still soft and subtle. Doesn't scream "boozy". The incense is soft and clean and inviting. The entire fragrance is about subtlety and warmth. There is a bit of a gourmand feel to it, like a warm background of vanilla pudding. I get some musk, labdanum and plenty of resins and all things golden and cozy. Eau My Soul not only comes in a gold bottle, it smells golden as well.

Eau My Soul is not about anything "beast mode", it's about inviting someone in closer, something to share with a special friend. Or a more than friend. Like a hug.

Eau My Soul is warm, comforting and easy going...just as any friendship should be. And it was made with the same ingredients: heart, soul, warmth, togetherness and love.
