Are We Talking About The Niche?

Coincidence? Fate? Destiny? Call it what you want. The fact is that I found these three masterpieces on a site that sells perfumes online at a ridiculous price, and blindly I put them in the cart. We are still talking about Grès, so what? I read that they have planned these 3 perfumes to pay homage to the style and elegance of the Grès house under the Les Signes de Grès series. The packaging follows a line in common with all the collection peers, with a bottle with broad shoulders and a narrow bottom, a flat gold T-shaped cap, and a juice and label of different colours.

Fruit de la Creativité

Initially, the fragrance features a body with a classic presence and something dark in the roses and musks with a muted air of patchouli following a 1980s perfumery style. The opening reveals a bitter almond-like nuance, as similar as the Di Saronno Amaretto. Shortly after that, it is reinforced by the lines of wood, leather, and musk, with an aroma that gradually softens its intensity. There is a dark rose with spicy and caramelized wood from saffron. The scent turns into a powdery rose and coffee with amber wood stems in a soft format in the heart. The aroma becomes sweeter, the rose note clears and opens to fruity red points mixed with powdery and toasted labdanum. It centres the finish on a sweet musk with low acidity raspberries. There are backgrounds of oriental wood and leather, sometimes reminiscent of oud, and I could even imagine patchouli inside, but it’s just an effect.

Etat de Grâce

In the beginning, the scent comes out with a significant line of ripe citrus fruit and rosemary that progresses towards vanillic tonka, portending the leading finish of sweet amber with dry wood and leather. There is a medicine-like vibe that lingers for a while. In the heart emerge intense liqueur veins; there is a boozy vein reminiscent of the finest Courvoisier cognac. Then spicy cinnamon with a hint of meadow chamomile and greasy resin appears, thanks to a blend of roses that are no rosy at all. The fragrance remains on a centerline of ripe fruits, wood, and vanillic amber nuances. On the finish, the scent increases the sensation of a spicy smokiness by moving through tones of the incense family with styles of labdanum with residues of syrupy rose and sporadic appearances of an almost herbaceous green background, toasted amber, and savoury spices. Among the three, this one recalls the most the Middle East creations.

Extrême Pureté

In the beginning, the fragrance highlights streaks of fresh lemon with dusty, almost aldehyde sections, which change soon after to a bright spot of a mandarin with cinnamon and ginger-like accord. The note of the fig explodes in the heart, more green and crispy than milky, soon reached by a spicy freshness, light mouldy tobacco that ends a scent similar to dried mandarin peels. In the heart, the fragrance softens the bright citrus, highlighting a warm layer that contains contributions of myrrh and a return of the fig. On the finish, the scent becomes more woody and resinous, raising the cedar section that becomes dominant, with fresh reflections derived from the presence of citrus and amber backgrounds that support a dark masculine company.
