Layton - my personal gateway drug to the niche world
Somehow it was clear that I had to dedicate my first review here to my first niche fragrance and my first "fragrance love". So let's go!... and be gracious with me, my nose is still in the discovery phase, I've only been intensively involved in the world of fragrances for a few months. So please don't expect any olfactory or chemical analysis... apart from that: where the heart beats as high as it does for my Layton, there can be no objective evaluation :D

As I said, Layton was my first niche fragrance and when I smelled it for the first time, I felt like a perfume explorer for whom a whole new world had opened up, away from the generic designer fragrance spheres. This unmistakable opening with bergamot, very subtle mint and, of course, apple (...oh, that apple!) was like that first sentence in a book that immediately captivates you. Just the beginning of my very personal adventure into the world of "more exclusive" fragrances. It is what it is: Layton is simply the perfect "gateway drug".

What has made Layton special for me since the beginning is its unobtrusiveness. He's not challenging, but simply incredibly pleasing. It's as if he's saying: "Hey, I'm here to make your day, not to polarize." Simply a treat for the senses without being an olfactory challenge.

Although Layton is rather simple in structure, for me there is a perfect balance behind every element. Like a well-conducted orchestra in which each of the (admittedly rather few) instruments hits its note perfectly. For me, Layton is actually two perfumes in one. The opening and drydown flow smoothly into one another, but are very different in their respective peak phases. First this wonderful apple and then increasingly this deep, so round and perfect vanilla in the drydown. In the transition phase, it's somehow like a warm apple pie with vanilla pudding - I love every single phase.

Contrary to popular belief, Layton is not a "beastmode" fragrance for me, even though the longevity and sillage are definitely above average (I have a 2020 batch). For me, it is simply perfectly dosed: present without directly filling entire rooms and penetrating other people's noses at a distance of 20 meters.

On my fragrance journey, I have already noticed that people are quick to throw superlatives around. But I also have to say that sweet fragrances tend to be absorbed more strongly by my skin. H/S is an issue for many people. Of course, I don't want to buy a fragrance for a lot of money if there's nothing left of the experience after 2-3 hours (...TF, Creed...WTF). But for me personally, the "performance" of my fragrances is not a math of durability and sillage, it is these special feelings that a fragrance manages to evoke in me - it is my experience, which is not made better by the fact that I have to unintentionally share it with my whole environment.

Whatever, Layton is perceived, but doesn't hit anyone hard on the olfactory bulb. A fragrance that is perceived as wafting very pleasantly in the air, in all phases of its course.

Apart from duplicates, there is no other fragrance that smells like Layton. There is something unique about it that is hard to put into words. This fragrance is an experience for me. Layton has broadened my fragrance horizons and given me a lasting impression of the magic of niche fragrances. A great start to my journey through the world of special fragrances!

Final question - who knows it? Putting on your favorite perfumes at night before bed, taking the lid off, smelling it and just smiling and feeling happy? ...please don't tell me I'm the only one who's that crazy? d
