Hello, it's me, the thyme!
Following on from my review of the
Bel Sole, I would now also like to rate the
In Riviera.
Due to the apparently difficult availability in only a few German points of sale, the potential wearer is guaranteed exclusivity here. Whether that makes the fragrance something special: I have my doubts.
There are four fragrances in the "Perris Portofino" range with the "aquatic" theme. I have smelled all four, the two in question on my skin.
To be honest, I found
In Riviera the best of them all. It has a certain salty freshness. That's what it's supposed to have thematically. And yes, it does. This certain salty-aquatic note remains throughout and is reminiscent of the "sea" theme.
Above all, however, is the thyme. At the beginning, it is a bit of a "punch out of the bag", then it becomes a little softer and recedes as the fragrance progresses. The result is a spicy yet airy sea saltiness.
I also think I can detect a certain sweetness or sweetish freshness behind the spiciness of the thyme.
But I don't really recognize any real aquatic notes. More fresh spice.
For me personally, the sea and aquatics are different. That is different. So what I imagine it to be.
But well, thousands of perfumers have tried to capture or reproduce the "sea" theme, in all variations and materials; some have succeeded better, others less so.
What else is there to come? In the end, you might have a lot of expectations. Perhaps even too much, if I'm honest with myself. And it's the same here: Somehow it's all been there before.
A little thyme and rosemary to the familiar, a little marketing and exclusivity, hit the price - after 5 hours the fragrance is off and not even close to the skin.
I don't know. No, I'd rather have a 90s aquatic or five different "simple" aquatics for the price of this one. Yes, maybe I'm a philistine now, but I don't need to spend almost 200 euros on this. Not for this.

Simple - and that's what makes it special
If you're looking for a complex and special fragrance, something special, something that doesn't exist anywhere else, something revolutionary: keep going!
This fragrance is fresh. Very fresh. Not citrusy, toilet-fresh, but lemonade-fresh! So tart and fresh. A soft freshness. I even find more grapefruit than bergamot. Then the fragrance is clear, clean and linear. Nothing happens at all. Really nothing at all. From the first spray to the shower - always the same! It stands like a one!
In my opinion, the fragrance doesn't weaken and fade away; no, it just stays. But thanks to its lightness and clarity, it is a straightforward existence and not a sticky and annoying clinging fragrance - I personally have a lot of trouble with that.
Let me explain it another way: My
Platinum Égoïste Eau de Toilette is a great and also initially fresh fragrance, but when it gets to the height of summer, even that is too much for me due to the woody spiciness.
And now imagine this moment for you, who are surely (hopefully) concerned about your own scent, who take care of yourselves and look after yourselves:
Summer, afternoon, hot, midsummer. You've been at work and are standing at the checkout in the supermarket and want to buy or pick up something quickly. And you're just thinking inside: I'm breathing shallowly, very shallowly and above all: I'm breathing short!
Because many people around you (my personal experience) unfortunately don't have the same level of physical freshness and cleanliness as we do. Especially in midsummer.
But that's where
Dior Homme Cologne (2013) is a dream.
Because that's exactly how I want to smell when everyone around me smells and smells bad. Clean, fresh, clean, linear and uncomplicated and somehow special.
Simply fresh and grapefruit, fixed by musk. It's simple, very simple. But here, in its simplicity, just damn well done.
I'm sure there are other, identical or similar fragrances in the ranges - I don't know.
But: You can't know them all and maybe there are even better ones:
But I think that if someone wants a summer fragrance that is simple, beautiful and straightforward, but not overwhelming when others think they have to put on their oud fragrance at 32 degrees (a topic in itself...), then this one is the right one or at least worth a test!

Men's sport
I got it, the 125ml bottle. Sprayed it on and I immediately had a flashback: yes, that's it, the fragrance that the grown-ups wore at the end of the 80s and in the 90s, when I was still young, when it got warmer or we were on a skiing vacation.
It was a far cry from what we have today as "citrusy sports fragrances". But back then, masculine didn't mean sweetener, oud or marshmallow, but cumin, musk, tarragon and lavender. Fougere, soap, aftershave, in other words.
Well, and then that was an EdT...almost something extraordinarily special!
From today's perspective, you can see it however you want, there was less choice back then and the man or woman smelled different.
Just pithy.
The scent is difficult to describe.
A bit green like grass, spicy and woody, especially the moss is very present towards the end. You have to like that, but all 80s fragrances have it. With the smoke in the apres-ski hut back then, the fragrances had to be so thick.
It's no longer contemporary but it's unique and simply great. If you can still get it at a reasonable price, go for it and especially the
Children of the 80s and 90s...you will surely have it in your nose immediately and think: "That's what .... smelled like back then"

Lemon with lemon with spiced lemon
On a visit to a Frankfurt perfumery, I was told that the label is so terribly exclusive that these fragrances are only available in three outlets across Germany; well, if that's important to you...
I, who have such problems with niche fragrances because they are often simply too expensive for "not special" and, above all, I'm usually annoyed by the utopian longevity of what feels like 72 hours, let myself be encouraged to smell the four fragrances. In the end, I applied
In Riviera and
Bel Sole. I was also (obligingly) given a sample to take home with me.
After applying it two or three times, I have to say that the fragrance doesn't grab me.
I find it very citrusy from start to finish.
Then it's a spiced and salted lemon, which is apparently supposed to represent the marine aquatics.
But I can't quite put my finger on it either. I find the fragrance fresh, spicy and above all (as I said) consistently citrusy.
The salty spiciness is somehow oppressive for me: and that is something that would personally bother me on a summer's day. And that's what the fragrance was actually created for.
For me, there is too much salt and spice and too much pressure for too little freshness.
In the end, it's a matter of taste. As always. But then again, I find it too arbitrary. For the price and the "exclusivity" - there are others that are very similar in this area. Three to four hours and then it becomes rather skin-deep. Good, summer fragrance. But for me personally, it wouldn't be worth it.

90s refreshment
In search of an aquatic that refreshes and perhaps captures a little of the vibes of my 90s and 2000s freshies, I came across this one on recommendation.
The fragrance is fresh, more fruity/citrusy than aquatic and has a certain shower gel aroma to it, which is positive in my opinion.
Not this "fie shower gel" but a nice and fresh aroma. No wonder but simply pleasant!
The nice thing about this is that despite the ridiculous price, the fragrance is not synthetic in my opinion, but (especially due to the pepper that joins the freshness) has a spiciness and the fragrance does not become sticky or sweet later on.
Basically, you smell like a fresh shower: citrusy, fruity, spicy, a kind of fresh and spicy summer fougère.
A great and light fragrance on very hot days. Or simply to apply after a fresh shower in the evening. The 200ml splash bottle is a bit strange, I always fill it into small atomizers, but you can also splash it: A matter of taste.
All in all, a freshie that is not 0815 and comes across well. As I spend a lot of time in Spain, I have to say that the Spanish are unfortunately very underestimated when it comes to their fragrance creations, because there are some good ones out there!
The only thing is that it doesn't last long. OK on hot days; if in doubt, take a small atomizer with you. At 15Euro/200ml, this should not be a problem.
