Vintage
I describe vintage batches!
It's sad to see how badly it's now rated, but it's also understandable, because it's been ruined to such an extent that it's no longer worth the price, even though it's currently very cheap.
When it was released at the end of the 80s, it was almost an experiment, because its sweetness alone made it very different from what men usually wore at the time. At first, it didn't go down well everywhere, but this changed abruptly in the following years. In the mid-90s, it felt like everyone knew it and people smelled it very often.
The glass bottle is beautifully designed and this dark wine-red color is simply magical, the sprayer is also very good.
There are several good vintage batches. Besides the most popular one with the cornflower, the 2nd Lancaster version is also recommended, which you can often get a lot cheaper. I recently bought another full 125 ml for 59 euros. Even from the early days, when Coty bought the fragrance, you can still get this 2nd version.
The fragrance in the vintage versions is worlds better than what you currently get. It smells deeper and more intense right from the start. You often read that it smells of cherry, but for me it's more of a sweet, spicy red wine of the fine variety. Especially in current batches, it has a very, and for me too dominant, "underarm sweat" note. This is also noticeable in the version with the cornflower, but here it is not nearly as disturbing as in the current version. If you still have a problem with this note, you should go for the 2nd version, as it has been reduced there!
The durability and sillage are very good.
Joop Homme, at least in the old versions, is and remains cult!

Vintage: Sometimes it takes several attempts
I am describing a vintage batch with the old, beautifully curved Davidoff font:
Davidoff released several smash hits in the 80s / 90s and was rightly one of the most popular fragrance brands of the time. If someone had said back then that this brand would mutate into one of the saddest ruined classic brands, no one would have believed it. In the past, they came up with something for almost every fragrance and flankers were a rarity. Today it's exactly the opposite, one flanker after the other and almost every one worse than the last.
The bottle is particularly impressive due to its almost magical green color. It is handy and discreetly designed, the sprayer is very good.
While I loved the fragrances
Zino Eau de Toilette and
Cool Water Eau de Toilette right from the start, I needed several attempts with this one. This was probably due to the fact that I still have a hard time with green fragrances from that time, especially if they have something "animalic" in them. Here, the "green" was at least a little more restrained in comparison.
For me, it starts with a note that makes me think directly of urine and this is also the case with the last available batches that I compared. Fortunately, this note fades into the background after a while and is replaced by a unique herbal wonder that I have never smelled before in any other fragrance. The moss gives it some freshness, but it's also a little sweet, which makes it more wearable for me in spring or fall.
The longevity and sillage are good!
Even though I still have to "torture" myself a bit with this initial note, my nose is rewarded with a unique fragrance that is worth it. For me, this is the last really good Davidoff fragrance, as I unfortunately no longer like its successor
Good Life for Men Eau de Toilette, even in the old version.

Vintage: The best cactus ever
I am describing a vintage batch here!
I got to know this fragrance as a teenager when I was doing a course in repro photography. The big boss of the company came into work one day wearing it and trailing a dreamy cloud behind him. As he had a cigarette on, it smelled even better and I'm not a non-smoker. It took me a bit of effort to ask him what he was wearing, but I just did it and he even told me the scent, but on one condition - that I didn't wear it at work because he had already reserved it for himself, so to speak. Of course, I stuck to it and didn't tell anyone else about it either.
The old bottle is a simple but beautiful red glass bottle and looks exactly like the aftershave version listed here. The sprayer is good.
It starts directly with a broad fresh sweet opening of the master class. The ingenious cactus gives the whole thing a very special note that I have never smelled anywhere else and I have smelled a lot. It's sweet, but just right for my nose and I like wearing it in warm weather because of its freshness. Not necessarily in the midday heat, but also in the evening in summer. This is also one of my unique treasures that I have stashed away several times. I haven't smelled the new version yet, so unfortunately I can't compare what it's like these days.
The longevity is good, the sillage is very good. A few sprays in the air already supply an entire room, a little more sprays then every other one you walk through, that's how it should be!
This fragrance also shows how creative Givenchy used to be, because like it here,
Pi Eau de Toilette is also one of my Givenchy treasures.

The 90s era of the Aquatas
I am describing a vintage batch!
In the 90s, the best aquatic / "aquatic-like" fragrances to date came onto the market, such as
Nightflight Eau de Toilette and
Heaven Eau de Toilette. Cool Water (Eau de Toilette) | Davidoff", which appeared at the end of the 80s, was also very popular and also very good. And this was one of them. It seems to have been discontinued in the meantime, which is hardly surprising given the last few batches. Last year, I was still able to test it at Müller and, as with most classics, it has unfortunately been robbed of its soul.
They did the same with the bottle, because while my old one still has the beautiful glass decoration, this has been flattened on the last batches, as has the fragrance itself. The sprayer is good.
The vintage version of the fragrance is very fresh, softly woody, beautifully cold and without any sweetness, which makes it perfect for summer. There are some fruits in it, but they have been woven so intelligently that you don't have the hundredth "citrus freshness" here. That's another thing I don't understand about modern summer fragrances - why do they almost all have to smell like lemon, orange and/or grapefruit? Some of them are very good, but some brands do nothing else, again and again.
The longevity and sillage are good.
In some places, prices are already going through the roof again, and the last batches in particular are not worth it! The vintage batches aren't cheap either and are getting harder and harder to get, especially untipped, but I'm very happy to still have it because it's still something special!

Vintage: Pure seduction
I describe vintage batches!
When girls wore this fragrance in the 90s, I was at their mercy and that's why it's still in my collection several times today. I once sniffed a current batch at Müller and you can still recognize it, but unfortunately it's been pretty much destroyed. Fortunately, vintage batches are still quite common and affordable!
It comes in visually different bottles, I have the Gold Edition, which is also listed here, and two normal ones. They are not too big, nice and handy and the sprayers are good.
The fragrance is pure seduction right from the start, very soft, broad, cuddly and mega attractive. It really wraps you up warmly and gently. It's gourmand perfection, with just the right ingredients. I also wear it regularly as a man in winter, but it is particularly beautiful on women.
The longevity and sillage are very good.
I have some really good gourmand fragrances that are very tasty, but this is one of the best.
