Lonestar Memories
The image conjured in the press release with the cowboy settling near a fireplace , washing his hands and then brewing a coffee after a long day is a perfect one in representing this scent. After 15-20 minutes of a smoky , birch tar opening, this settles into a subtle leather with a floral undertone , maybe from the geranium and jasmine, which soon is joined by the sweeter notes of tonka and myrrh without being sugary or edible.
A nostalgic smell somehow , a scent that sends you reminiscing memories , good or bad, but nonetheless there are your memories ,buried deep into your soul.

Rich Mess
Name says it all. The smell of rich people partying in some penthouse in Manhattan. Cocaine , expensive champagne, fancy leather bags and a lot of debauchery. This is one intoxicating smell . Opens up with a rubbery, sparkling accord , probably the fruits and the leather which is quite pungent in the beginning. Settles very nicely to a beautiful sandalwood and cedar drydown. No wonder this was a winner of the Art and Olfaction Awards. Superb projection and longevity.

Eau Noire
One of the 3 perfumes launched when Hedi Slimane was at the helm of Dior.
From the 3 this is the most polarizing scent. A unique take on lavender, this one is a gourmand lavender coupled with thyme, immortelle, coffee and vanilla. These are the main players in the fragrance.
Some people describe a “curry” smell and that probably comes from the combination of thyme, sage and immortelle. But in my opinion this doesn’t have a foody or body odor smell associated with that curry note.
Eau Noire has been reformulated a couple of times since 2004 when it came in cologne concentration. In 2010 I think they made it an EdP which is the version i have, with the green colour . In 2022 they relaunched Eau Noire which retains the DNA, but seems more clean and polished, maybe cutting the “rough edges” and make it wearable for the universal buyer. I prefer the older version but I’m glad this still exists in production at least.

Amouage Opus VI
Sadly , this is not in production anymore . Somehow the new creative director decided to change the face of the Opus Collection and discontinue a few along the way.
A creation that was meant to represent the destruction and reinvention of knowledge and memories. A great description nonetheless ,but for me this is an opulent oriental amber the sophisticated omani incense coupled with the usual Amouage spices.
Longevity and projection are huge with this one so spray carefully .

L’Artisan Parfumeur Al Oudh= Arabie + Fate + Oud
This is a different take on oud than the usual stuff you see on the “oud” market. Created by Bertrand Douchafour , this was made to evoke the old caravans transporting spices, incense and myrrh in the desert heat.
Mr Douchafour chose to focus on the spices because this is a cumin dominant scent drenched in dried friuits syrup with myrrh , incense and a little bit of civet to round things up make it just a little bit dirty, in the best sense of course. To me , sometimes this smells like some ancient chest in an old monastery, but that’s just me. There are echoes of Arabie with that dried fruit accord and Fate Man by Amouage (old chest full of spices smell), nonetheless this blends them nicely with civet and incense to create something extraordinarily exotic and never out of place.
Although there are listed a lot of heavy notes , this is no beast of a perfume, but is has decent longevity with close projection.
