Gentle Start to Spring
“Ivoire - It is a name I have given to a dream. The name of a woman who was absolutely beautiful and wrapped in light silk. She glided past me on the stairs at the opera before disappearing into the night.”

Pierre Balmain

This extraordinary fragrance was created during the trip of Balmain Creative Director, Oliver Rousteing, to Miami and is closely linked to the Spring - Summer 2013 fashion collection of the house.

The opening is exciting: tart, sharp red currants resting on a light bergamot base. A warm, beautiful, sunny spring is announced.
Then it rains magnolia blossoms, as if one were sitting under a magnolia tree.
Osmanthus absolute provides interesting fruity and lively nuances here.
I detect a minimal hint of patchouli on my skin - thus the fragrance becomes warmer.
The finish is with ambrettolid (a musk-like scent from the musk mallow flower), which gives the whole a rounded note.

Conclusion: It is an interesting, beautiful, undoubtedly original fragrance that does not deserve the low rating of only 65% here.
Fresh, warm, feminine, elegant - a wonderful companion into spring.
It certainly has an optimistic character, and wearing it brings joy to everyday life.
It doesn’t sweep you off your feet immediately, as it is too refined, but by the second day of wearing it, you come to know and appreciate its subtle beauty.

The longevity is about 7 hours, the sillage is good but not overwhelming, and the bottle is beautiful!

The Scent of Women
“I’ve heard that rumors are sown here,
when do they bloom?”

Joachim Panten

Rumeur starts with magnolias, but they are not freshly picked, rather they are slightly metallic and “muted.”
Then comes a floral bouquet: lily of the valley, jasmine, and rose accompanied by a clear purity and freshness of a frosty morning.
I also clearly and distinctly smell a gentle harbinger of spring, lilac.
Then a flood of oranges arrives - the best quality, juicy and dense.
After the floral and fruity accords, it becomes warmer and more feminine:
Amber, musk, and patchouli make their appearance and round off the scent.

And here it is, one of the most beautiful, straightforward, and subtle patchoulis I have ever had the pleasure of smelling - truly a grand performance!

And once again, I encounter Francis Kurkdjian with his genius.
For Rumeur is a beautiful composition!
Elegant and feminine, intriguing and exciting. Unique!
Not a girl’s scent despite the initial floral accents - it is a scent for women.
There’s something in Lanvin’s Rumeur that conveys energy and optimism,
this scent is “hopeful,” the day can only begin very well with it (despite the rumors)!

The sillage is strong, the longevity is very good, the bottle is okay, although I would have wished for a different, more modern one without brass for this scent. But I am slowly warming up to it… :-)

The Scent of Darkness or "The Devil's Advocate" - UNISEX
Valentina Oud Assoluto by Valentino is a limited edition from 2013. The creator is Oliver Cresp.
He presents us with an extremely unusual, dark, and somber composition that establishes a connection: between Italian culture and tradition and the magic of the Orient.

When I read the ingredients, I knew that I was not expecting a "good girl" scent, but what I received was a divine or even devilish fragrance for the chosen ones.
This scent literally brought me to my knees. For here, darkness enveloped me first….
I thought of the great Al Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate" as the devil. That was my first association with Valentina Oud Assoluto. The descriptor here is devilish, ABSOLUTELY devilishly good!

Oud, leather, and vanilla accompanied by rose do not lead, as is often the case with such combinations (Oud - Rose), to an overtly prominent rose composition.
It is rather an oriental woody direction.
Upon opening, the Oud immediately makes its presence known; here it is medicinal, somewhat strict, yet very dense. On the skin, it warms up very quickly and acquires a muted minimal sweetness.
After the festive Oud, the leather reveals itself - it is thick, yet soft, supple, and shiny, as if it has just been treated with a good conditioner; initially expressive, it gradually recedes into the background.
The rose has been somewhat "smoked," giving it a certain maturity. The very minimal sweetness is attributed to the vanilla and a hint of orange.
A pinch of cardamom and saffron provide the spiciness.

Oliver Cresp has created another masterpiece here!
This fragrance is dense, essential, rich, heavy, and dark but above all incredibly elegant and also proud!
I recommend it to men as well; you must try it, I haven't smelled something so beautiful with character in a long time.

I close my eyes and see a resin-covered tree and nearby a campfire.
Leaning against the tree is a man dressed in black, proud, dark, and mysterious.
And as I approach him - darkness will envelop me ……
And that is exactly how this scent is.

Real Drinking Chocolate with Chili - Perfect Harmony
There is nothing better than a hot drinking chocolate.
It should not be confused with the common cocoa drinks and is made with water, bitter chocolate, and chili, with sugar added last.
The result is a thick, dark brown irresistibly fragrant and equally flavorful drink.

Such drinking chocolate is the aristocratic beverage and delicacy of the Rococo era.
In the 18th century, it was a drink for wealthy adults, enjoyed at breakfast in the boudoir, truly celebrating this indulgence.
In the Catholic regions of Europe, the chocolate discovered by Spaniards in Mexico spread like wildfire and became a cult drink.
It was not until 1828, when the Dutchman Conrad van Houten invented cocoa powder, that the consumption habits of chocolate changed, leading it to be eaten and also given to children in solid or liquid form diluted with milk.

I was fortunate to drink such a beverage, the real drinking chocolate, more often when I lived in Rome, and the taste of that enchanting liquid lingers on my tongue when I smell Santal Majuscule by Serge Lutens.

This scent is not a literal interpretation of sandalwood, but rather an impression on the subject. And as shown, sandalwood has enchanted me here.

Santal Majuscule starts off very sweet; you have to give it time and not be put off by it. The beginning is very dense and creamy: Black, very black chocolate, sweetened and with a hint of winter rose on top, all very intense.
Then it changes, the tonka bean and sandalwood begin to unfold their very woody and creamy effect here.
A minimal citrus note also resonates in my nose.
And it becomes exciting and interesting, the scent warms up, the sweetness disappears, giving way to immense harmony. It is such a rich yet balanced composition, full of loving details. This scent takes me to other dimensions, touches my emotions, feels close to me.
It is often categorized as an oriental fragrance, which I do not find accurate: I do not find it oriental at all; it is simply Him - different and unique.

The longevity is very lasting, a whole day, sillage 75%

As a unisex fragrance, it brings sensuality and uniqueness to women, and charm and originality to men.
For me, it is clearly one of the best from Lutens.

Christmas from the Bottle
“Ah, I could say to the moment - Stay a while, you are so beautiful”
Faust - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Amber, musk, and vanilla have been masterfully mixed here by Francis Kurkdjian with rare eloquence - straightforward, bold, and brilliant.
Especially the vanilla in this composition is wonderfully rough and organic; enticing like a delicious dessert.
From the very first moment, this fragrance is warm, cozy, and brings me sunshine in the gray of winter.
It envelops me in a protective cocoon.

Like in the Christmas season, I associate it with orange peels, delightful spices, and hot strong tea.
And just like a good black tea, this fragrance warms me from the inside.
When I spray it on, I can hardly detach myself from my wrist; my nose wants to go back there :-)
This olfactory journey with it is a truly wonderful and sensual experience!

What can I say…. I am enchanted by it… it was love at first sniff.

It soothes me when I am tense, it brings my smile back when I am sad, it accompanies me to sleep and lets me dream better.
It is an erotic comfort for the soul.

Can one expect more from a fragrance?
