Brilliant Black
When I hear the name "Valentino," I automatically think of the world-famous "Valentino Red" of various couture dresses and a man with sun-kissed skin and bright eyes.

The fragrances from the house of Valentino I find solid and okay, but not necessarily spectacular. However, almost all the bottles (Rock’n Rose, Valentina, Valentino, and Vendetta) remain vividly in my memory due to their very beautiful design. They are always special, striking, and high-quality, thus standing alongside the legendary designs of the Maestro.

More or less by chance, a sample of "Valentina Oud Assoluto" fluttered into my home some time ago. I was immediately curious about how this black flanker would stand out from the otherwise more rosy-toned and very feminine Valentina fragrances. Simply adding Oud to them seemed rather far-fetched to me.

"Valentina Oud Assoluto" starts off directly and without any preamble; an Oud-leather combination is unmistakable for me from beginning to end. The intensity, the fragrance color, and the "mixing ratio" of this duo I find pleasantly fluctuating throughout the entire scent journey.

"Valentina Oud Assoluto" is a dark and almost mystical fragrance. Black, yet not threatening or hopelessly gloomy. The Oud comes without any medicinal aspects; it is sharp as a knife but not piercing. The leather is certainly black, yet glove-soft and of such high quality that it would surely meet the high standards of Hermès and Tod’s for their exquisite leather goods.

The fragrance starts, as already mentioned, with an Oud-leather combo, where I would place the Oud component slightly above that of the leather at this point. Orange blossom provides an underlying brighter touch, while I cannot precisely identify the cardamom. There is something spicy at play, but I cannot say whether it comes from the Oud or the cardamom.

Towards the heart note, the Oud-leather mixture (which maintains a balance) is enhanced by an enchanting rose, which, with its full, softly sweet scent, creates a very own, elegant atmosphere and brightens the fragrance, almost making it radiant. I inevitably think of an elegant salon with heavy velvet curtains, a crackling fireplace, and leather furniture in one of those Gründerzeit villas. On the little table, long, dark roses in lead crystal vases release their fragrance into the room.

As the fragrance moves towards the base, the Oud-leather duo increasingly tips towards leather. The Oud becomes progressively "quieter" and softer, taking on almost balsamic, smooth qualities. Dark vanilla and the typical saffron scent blend with the Oud, forming a kind of counterpoint to the dark leather, alongside which some woods join (which I cannot specify further).

This scent journey lasts for hours, as the longevity of this fragrance is really very good for me at about 9 hours. I perceive the sillage as initially very strong, but it then softens somewhat, although I would still categorize it as strong. I have also noticed that the fragrance takes on unpleasant notes if one overdoes the dosage. As always, the dose makes the poison.

Anyone who chooses "Valentina Oud Assoluto" receives a very fine, soft, highly elegant, high-quality, luxurious, present, and confident fragrance, which is also housed in a stunningly beautiful bottle.
Okay, Oud and rose are not new inventions by Valentino or Olivier Cresp, but I find the execution very successful and, especially due to its quality, a prime example of this fragrance combination.

"Valentina Oud Assoluto" is indeed very present, yet not loud or even garish. The fragrance exudes nobility and class.

In my opinion, "Valentina Oud Assoluto" is definitely not a purely feminine fragrance, but can also be worn by men due to its dark aspects.

Therefore, an absolute test recommendation for all those who want to get to know and discover a special Oud fragrance. For Oud beginners, the fragrance might be a bit too much, while for those accustomed to Oud, it could trigger the notorious "must-have reflex." If the latter applies to some... I can't be held responsible ;-)

Tenderness of Darkness
It's hard for me to breathe.
Thoughts, as heavy as a truck, seem to crush my head.
I am naked. Walking on wet ground. I can literally feel the cold creeping up from the bottom to the top of my body. Delicate spices brush against my nose. The wind blows through the dark forest. I can almost smell the wood. Leaves fall around my head. I feel so connected. Yet so cold.

I feel delicate roses with my hand. It pricks a little... The wind blows around my ears. It grows stronger. The darkness becomes a pull. Rough air settles down. Dense fog reduces my visibility. Smoky notes nestle into my wet body. The sky is soaked with sadness. The clouds seem to sag. I lift my head against it. The first drop falls. I feel so connected. Yet so cold.

I throw a heavy leather jacket over my naked body. I almost sink into the wet ground. Animalistic thoughts cross my mind from now on. I feel good, special, somehow created by evil. Yet there is always this gentle tenderness of darkness that wraps me warmly. I let myself be showered by my inner voice, which rolls the requiem up and down. Oud slowly but then very powerfully pours over my soul and settles deep in my legs. I feel so connected. Yet so cold.

Slowly I push my way out of the forest. The fantasy lifts me to the Orient, which perfectly intersects with the other components. I catch a shadow of vanilla. Light, subtle. Just to ensure it doesn't come off too sweet. Because Valentina is not sweet. Valentina is a bit temperamental. Demanding and quite stubborn! But I like this streak. Exactly what I understand by special. Although it’s not the best Oud scent ever, it definitely deserves to be given a chance. -> Because hardly anyone knows it, and it smells a bit peculiar. You have to let Valentina take you by the hand and spontaneously venture into the dark forest. If you don't, you will be haunted in your dreams. Because Valentina clings to you for a whole day. She doesn't run out of breath quickly. Nor does her stubbornness. Because she is a character in the room. Fully present, without becoming too graspable.

Now that’s a statement from Valentino.
I wouldn't have thought so.

The Scent of Darkness or "The Devil's Advocate" - UNISEX
Valentina Oud Assoluto by Valentino is a limited edition from 2013. The creator is Oliver Cresp.
He presents us with an extremely unusual, dark, and somber composition that establishes a connection: between Italian culture and tradition and the magic of the Orient.

When I read the ingredients, I knew that I was not expecting a "good girl" scent, but what I received was a divine or even devilish fragrance for the chosen ones.
This scent literally brought me to my knees. For here, darkness enveloped me first….
I thought of the great Al Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate" as the devil. That was my first association with Valentina Oud Assoluto. The descriptor here is devilish, ABSOLUTELY devilishly good!

Oud, leather, and vanilla accompanied by rose do not lead, as is often the case with such combinations (Oud - Rose), to an overtly prominent rose composition.
It is rather an oriental woody direction.
Upon opening, the Oud immediately makes its presence known; here it is medicinal, somewhat strict, yet very dense. On the skin, it warms up very quickly and acquires a muted minimal sweetness.
After the festive Oud, the leather reveals itself - it is thick, yet soft, supple, and shiny, as if it has just been treated with a good conditioner; initially expressive, it gradually recedes into the background.
The rose has been somewhat "smoked," giving it a certain maturity. The very minimal sweetness is attributed to the vanilla and a hint of orange.
A pinch of cardamom and saffron provide the spiciness.

Oliver Cresp has created another masterpiece here!
This fragrance is dense, essential, rich, heavy, and dark but above all incredibly elegant and also proud!
I recommend it to men as well; you must try it, I haven't smelled something so beautiful with character in a long time.

I close my eyes and see a resin-covered tree and nearby a campfire.
Leaning against the tree is a man dressed in black, proud, dark, and mysterious.
And as I approach him - darkness will envelop me ……
And that is exactly how this scent is.

Tuscan Leather Lady Edition
I struck again in Dubai.
Great black bottle and then my excitement about whether this was really the better TF Tuscan Leather? Never...
Indeed, after an hour it smells quite similar, just more sensual, not so smoky, and the longevity is slightly weaker. The opening, however, is more feminine and has something of a sensual plum, landing in dark chocolate. Soft, non-medical OUD shyly reveals itself behind all that dark leather.
Yes, it is rounder than Tuscan Leather, develops more... a lot of leather, little OUD, not as raspberry-like and biting as in Byredo's Black Saffron, for example. Just a well-rounded story... heavenly... also wearable by men.

Very good! Bravo Valentino! A real experience. $199 is reasonable for 80ml. Definitely! Too bad it's so rarely available in Europe...

A dark, smoky cloud curls around my neck...
... Mmmmmmmmmmmm. I admit, I have liked everything from Valentia so far without exception. They are pleasing, have a subtle powdery note, and give one a touch of elegance when time is of the essence. They are, so to speak, the most reliable among the floral-soft fragrances. And now this. A black sheep in a creamy pastel heaven!

I confess, I was already itching to try it when I saw the press release: raven-black bottle, oud, woods, cardamom?! Conclusion: This scent belongs to me!

And this black sheep turned out to be a worthwhile investment. One spritz and a generous portion of leather envelops you. At this stage, if you want to go by the classic classification, you might think of it as a somewhat more subtle oriental men’s fragrance. Then something dark and spicy crackles in the air, making its way. Mmmmmmmmmm...

Some time later, something powdery dares to emerge. Ha! I know you! You are the Valentina powder comfort feeling! You look beautiful in this darker variant, not too powdery or creamy, no overload of orange blossom or rose. Just right.

And then, yes then, a warm, incense-like, and very sensual scent trail lingers for hours. I caught myself sniffing my sweater with full devotion. Simply wonderful. I think one smells neither "masculine" nor "feminine," but rather "dandy-esque": luxurious, a bit better than the others, extravagant and confident.

Perhaps that’s why I felt the urge to spontaneously acquire a pair of ruby-red velvet slippers?

Orange blossom dominates, rose is plausible, and it rests on a subtly typical niche oriental base with leather: it's solid.

Oh, it’s somehow nice. A light yellow (I mean the tone, not the color) fanfare of orange blossom and rose with lots of vanilla, on....

Orange blossom with moderate cardamom, oud combined with dark spicy rose. A hint of vanilla leather. The deal is sealed.

From 2013. Little oud, some spice, a bit of rose. Fairly okay, but gets lost in the sea of similar scents. Skippable.

This is how something called "Black Perfecto" should actually smell. Black leather, pleasantly ashy. The flowers polish the surface. Fine!

The bottle perfectly matches the scent: black elegance from edgy leather, dry wood, and well-measured rose. It can get overwhelming quickly.

I don't like Oud or leather in high doses... But everything is perfect here. Exceptionally beautiful scent in a dreamy bottle. Definitely unisex.
