Fragrances fit for a storm

Fragrances fit for a storm

This article is a departure from my usual fornightly post, but I thought to write it early this morning as the unremitting, tempestuous wind howled miserably outside the granite walls of my home, and the pitter patter of rain pelted a war against the glass of my windows. The insurgency of Storm Babet in North Scotland began on Thursday evening and my forewish is that it will come to an end tonight. Early this morning, somewhere between 1 and 2 am, I sprung out from under the warmth of my bed to sort through my modest fragrance collection for those scents that have kept me snug, placid and collected, despite the suddenness of cancelled travel plans and a necessary stay-in. This short article is my attempt at listing fragrances I own that are fit for a storm.

Lattafa's Khamrah is the latest addition to my collection, yet within 3 weeks, 15% of its contents have already been used up and a back-up bottle is on its way to my home. The sweetness of the combination of dates, cinnamon and praline, produce a scent that borders on the delicious wafting of baked apples. Without the chill of draft, endless howling of wind and the ferocious pattering of rain, Khamrah could almost be too sweet. But she has been perfect. She has coddled me and lifted my damp spirits.

Burberry's Brit for her EDP with her sweet and darling interpretation of lime, almond and vanilla has been the perfect daytime accompaniment as I focused on working in my home office, despite the storm waging outside and the terrible news of loss of life.

Georges Rech's Muse Poudrée, a fragrance I slowly fell in love with, has been a calming influence of dainty violets, intrusive musk and sweet vanilla. There is something wholly unpretentious and feminine about Muse Poudrée that makes me feel almost dressed up, despite the abundance of fleece and thick layers, that have formed my autumnal wardrobe these days.

So there you have it, these three beauties have been on hand, these past three days. What about you, what are some of the fragrances in your collection that you would wear in such an occasion.
