The French-born Japanese, who has traveled a lot..
I could finally bring myself to write my first review here on Parfumo and I will dedicate it to my longtime companion Annayake Tomo.

A fragrance that perhaps leads a rather shadowy existence here in the community and yet, in my opinion, is quite a solid fragrance. I simply owe it to it, as it was always a faithful companion in my mid and late twenties and I felt I wore it for every occasion and in every season.

To my astonishment, after I had already written most of this text here, I realized that other people here have had similar experiences with this fragrance and that Tomo has always been a faithful companion for them too, and in some cases still is.
He was also always with me on my travels, whether in Asia, Australia or Central America.

At the time, I only owned a handful of fragrances at most, and I never really looked into them, as long as I liked the scent and the overall package was right.
Most of the time, I just went to the Turquoise store without a plan, sniffed my way through the fragrances and then just bought the next best one I liked.

And so, as a young guy, in addition to "Kokorico by Night | Jean Paul Gaultier" and "La Nuit de L'Homme (Eau de Toilette) | Yves Saint Laurent" and "Only The Brave (Eau de Toilette) | Diesel", I also came across my Annayake Tomo. The whole thing must have been in 2007, the year of the Tomo release, but I can't remember exactly.

I never actually received any major compliments for this fragrance, at least I can't remember them. I just liked it and wore it. How it was received by women was more of a secondary or tertiary consideration for me, but I think it definitely goes down well with many of them.

My wife still likes this fragrance on me today, as she probably associates it with our early days when we first met.

After this little digression, let's move on to the fragrance itself:

The bottle has a high recognition value and is kept quite timeless and also quite solid in terms of quality and workmanship. The lid is made of plastic, the rest of the bottle body is relatively heavy, otherwise not a mega highlight. The atomizer plays in the upper league in my opinion and is really good for me, it distributes the perfume super.

I'll try to describe the fragrance with my nose, which is not necessarily the best or most trained. So I apologize in advance if I can't smell every detail. With really expensive and higher-quality fragrances, it's sometimes much easier for me to recognize the scents, but I still need to train it further.

The top note starts with a strong lavender opening together with tonka bean, both of which clearly dominate the first 3-4 hours. I can't really perceive citrusy notes and rosemary in their entirety, if then only nuances of them, but I think that's because the fragrances are so finely interwoven and otherwise harmonize perfectly with each other.

After the first hour on my skin, very pleasing tobacco and woody notes gradually come to the fore, battling it out with the lavender and tonka bean.
I can't really smell coriander seeds and clary sage, but I have the feeling that they underline the whole thing slightly and are also used perfectly again.

I would classify the sillage as moderate, you definitely shouldn't expect any miracles here. Unfortunately, after almost 4 hours, you hardly emit any and if you do then only when you get quite close to someone.

What remains after 4-5 hours on my skin is musk and woods, which you can then only perceive close to the skin.

Conclusion:

All in all, I would say this is a very high-quality and beautiful fragrance that you can wear anytime, anywhere and for any occasion.
It has a great price-performance ratio and yet it unfortunately disappoints a little in terms of durability and sillage. I think this fragrance deserves a flanker that improves the longevity and sillage, but it's probably not worth it for Annayake, otherwise it would probably have already happened, which is a shame.

I hope my review was reasonably informative and could help one or the other

PS: In my opinion, this fragrance has nothing to do with "Le Mâle (Eau de Toilette) | Jean Paul Gaultier" :)
