"Beastly" good - A perfume that is second to none...
I've had my eye on you for a long time, but you weren't available to me for a long time. After asking dear Martin (the owner of the brand), and a great conversation later, I was able to buy you as a leftover bottle. And what can I say...?
This fragrance is in a class of its own. I'm generally not averse to artisanal fragrances that contain cocoa (e.g.
Russian Oud II), but this one is in a league of its own.
At the beginning,
Bellum starts very pleasantly with an animalic spiciness (which is in no way "stinky") and is accompanied by a gentle sweetness of honey. My guess is that the musk has a hand in this. The cocoa also comes through right from the start, but is still a little restrained at first.
After about 20 minutes, the fragrance takes on a great twist. The initial animal notes recede somewhat and a wonderful accord emerges, consisting of cocoa, which now fully unfolds, honey and tobacco. These fragrance components harmonize perfectly with each other and I think I can also identify the coconut and iris a little. I can't exactly describe the skunk note listed here, as I've never smelled anything like it in its pure form, but nothing here stinks at all ;)
As
Bellum progresses, the Chinese oud gradually comes through and gives the perfume a slight woody twist. The remaining listed notes are all well integrated and complement each other to create an absolute masterpiece. Towards the "end" of the fragrance pyramid, the whole thing becomes a little sweeter and vanilla also makes an appearance in combination with ambergris. However, the latter is not salty but rather a little more animalistic, yet not at all biting, but rather pleasantly spicy.
All in all, I don't think the fragrance is as animalic as the statements below all describe, although you can still detect a subtle animal component. The fragrance itself is an absolute masterpiece and the quality is absolutely top class. Many thanks once again to @Martin2804 for the amazing opportunity to purchase this remaining bottle, even though the fragrance has been completely sold out for ages. I will definitely have a lot of fun with this perfume. If you still have it on your wish list and haven't had the chance to try
Bellum yet, this is an EXPRESS recommendation to do so as soon as possible ;)

Far from mainstream: a fragrance with character
This fragrance is really far removed from all conventional woody-green scents. The opening is very fresh and is dominated by juniper and rose geranium. You can definitely smell the barber store associations mentioned here, but this is not too present in my nose. This juniper note then accompanies you through the entire course of the fragrance, but the rose geranium is replaced after about 20 to 25 minutes by an initially slightly sharp/spicy cedar. This is very opulently integrated into the fragrance for a long time, but at some point it has to give way to the musk-amber combination. All in all, this perfume is a rather masculine fragrance with a lot of depth. My absolute (current) favorite in terms of woody freshness and ideal for pretty much all cold days/seasons (including spring)
