The Best Dior
So where should I start.
Oh right, this is my first review here.
But let's begin like this. I was familiar with the popular bestseller Dior Homme Intense. A powdery combination of iris and wood with a noble sweetness. The Homme Intense now stands for a whole category of these powdery gentleman scents like, for example, Givenchy Gentleman, Valentino Uomo Intense, or the aforementioned Dior Homme Intense. I had smelled the Dior Homme Intense several times and I liked it very much, an elegant scent for a smartly dressed evening. I had been toying with the idea of getting the Intense for a while. However, I also heard that the best version of this scent is supposedly the parfum version. This parfum variant is an exclusive in Germany, available only online at Dior for a fixed price of 150 euros.

Recently, I went on vacation on a cruise ship. On the said ship, there was a large onboard shop with a perfumery. In the evenings, when the ship had set sail, the onboard shop opened. The only thing I expected when I entered this perfumery were high prices and a limited selection. By chance, I then saw it, the Dior Homme Parfum. The bad thing was that there was no tester for this. The good thing was the price: 105 euros. For that price, I couldn't help but buy it blind.

About the scent
I expected a slightly deeper Dior Homme Intense with a bit of leather and oud.
The first thing I noticed in the opening was a prominent iris that didn't really come off as powdery, combined with an orange. However, the orange was more like a candy, very sweet and fruity, almost like a candied orange. Overall, the parfum has a prominent cola accord in the opening. At least that's how I personally perceive it. My suspicion is that this accord comes from the mentioned orange and the distinctly noticeable cinnamon note. (Feel free to comment if you also smell this cola accord or if I might have a weird nose.)

Over time, this orange fades away and the iris blends with a mixture of leather and wood, with a bit of oud becoming noticeable after 2-3 hours.

Towards the end, the scent becomes very close to the skin. The projection is okay, but as is typical for a parfum, it generally has a sillage that is moderate.

The longevity on my skin is about 7-8 hours; with a workday or school day, you would get by with 2-3 sprays. However, I see this scent more for the evening.
In the evening, I would also go for 5 sprays.

Similarity to the Intense, well, I find both scents rather independent. Both have a woody base, but the parfum is further enhanced with several notes that give the scent more depth. The Intense has an iris that quickly fills the room with a powdery lipstick accord. The parfum, however, does not have this lipstick accord for me; instead, it comes off sweeter and more seductive than the Intense.

In conclusion, I personally love the Dior Homme Parfum. It is different than expected and also different from the Intense. Dior has elevated the popular designer DNA to a niche level with this parfum. The depth of the scent is truly incredible. All in all, a masterpiece and my favorite designer from Dior. Only scents like Ambre Nuit from the private line can surpass it from the house of Dior, but these also play in a different price range and compete with niche fragrances from Xerjoff, PDM, etc.
