Take Me To The Candy Shop,
I absolutely love this fragrance and i am so thankful to those who tried the previous versions and begged Aaron not to discontinue this when he was talking about actually doing so. I also have to thank Aaron for not only listening to his fans unlike so many designer houses do when they reformulate or just discontinue their most popular fragrances to replace their best flankers with something subpar, but also thank him for actually listening and on top of that going the distance and making the fragrance perform better and upping the concentration to an Extrait De Parfum! What more can you ask from a perfumer? So this is the 2023 version of Hard Candy i own.

When i heard he had done this i knew this was a perfumer i had to take seriously and try out his fragrances ASAP and after talking to someone about strawberries recently in fragrances, i was looking for a fragrance with that note in it and of course came across Hard Candy, and here it is in the mid, great i thought!

I love this fragrance. It only arrived yesterday evening at about 8pm and from the time i sprayed it on until the time i went to bed i just could not stop smelling myself. You would think looking at the notes this wouldn't be wearable in summer but this is easily wearable all year round. I am guessing the Elixir will be more of a winter setting version, i could be wrong.

I also got 2 samples, Legend 2023 which is a blue fragrance very close to Luna Rosa Carbon and Sauvage but with what i could recognize was Aarons own twist after i had smelled the other 2 fragrances i have of his. What intrigued me more though was a sample labelled "Autumn Release" which really has me excited. I am sure that is the working title and it will have a full release name when it comes out. After 9 months of winter weather which is not normal, even here in Scotland never have i been so excited to get to Autumn before when the weather is rubbish here, but i am so excited about this Autumn fragrance coming out!

What i love about his fragrances is they are absolutely high quality, and he makes it available to us all because he has his 50ml bottles and 10ml bottles at very good prices, so we can all have a taste of the niche level fragrances he produces himself.

Yes, most of you probably know this but for those that don't Aaron has a YouTube channel reviewing other houses fragrances, but he is first a perfumer then a reviewer. He creates them himself, and he creates them so that he can wear them himself also, so you know he is going to be intent on making the best product possible, hence the new 2023 improved versions. Honestly i feel invigorated and so excited with just these three alone. i am definitely buying more and this is just after i recently got my first 4 Xerjoff fragrances yet i am more intent on buying more of Aaron's fragrances first, that should tell you something!

If you have not tried Aaron's fragrances, trust me now is the time to with the upgraded formulations and at the prices he makes them available to us all, especially the 10ml bottles at roughly £15-£35 there is no reason not to try them. This is a new favourite house for me, just nudging out Lorenzo Pazzaglia from 1st to the No.2 spot. They are both great, but i feel so excited with what i have smelled from Aaron so far and it has been a while since a fragrance made me feel this way hence me leaving a review which i hope you can feel my excitement from which is hard because words written can only go so far and is why i urge you to try the fragrances for yourself to experience it on your own. Remember when reading some of the older reviews that some will be from his older versions.

Something Special
As I work from home I have this by my desk smelling it constantly everyday. It really is so addicting, out of my 20 bottles I haven’t done something like that before. I got a compliment on my first wear as well, which is pretty rare. On the 2nd wear my girlfriend told me “you smell so good” as we waited at a restaurant. There’s only a handful of fragrances I have that she reacts that way with.

It smells like a perfect mix of fresh, sweet and woody. It does smell sort of like a wooden candy shop with fresh chocolate covered strawberries being made in the back. The strawberry note stands out to me, why don’t more fragrances use this, it’s so underutilized.

I prefer this to the elixir actually. It was hard to pick between the two, but the original projects off my skin better, the elixir sits a little close to my skin. The original is also less of a gourmand making it more versatile in my opinion.

Some say this is similar to Layton, or some of the Le male line or Ultra Male. I’ve smelled them all and own Layton. Sometimes when I smell hard candy I see the similarities, like the mix of fresh and sweet that Layton has, but this is a fragrance that stands on its own. Comparisons can be made but ultimately I’ve never smelled something quite like this.

This is probably the most unique, addicting scent in my collection. I’ll definitely get more of this when I run out.

My favorite
Have been trying a lot of ATH fragrances (see my account for reviews) and decided i need to buy a 50 ML from him. So far i had only tried 10 MLs. This is it, the perfect scent (for me). I was looking for something that i could wear on most days. Tried a lot of them and figured that this is it for me.

Super sweet opening, which i expected after reading reviews and looking at the notes. After like 15 minutes the super sweetness kind of dies down a bit and you get beautiful vanilla and strawberry sweetness with a bit of the fruits in the opening. After a couple hours you get the ATH staple of oud and sandalwood that gets added after the heart notes die down a bit. This smells amazing

Longevity is insane, like most ATH fragrances. Easily 12 hours if not more. Super strong sillage. I cant really give a time frame, but trust me, amazing sillage.

FYI, im not a heavy sprayer. I spray this 2 times and it is more than enough. If i have a long day i do spray it 3 times, but sometimes i regret it haha.

Also i have seen a lot of people compare it to Layton and Le Male/Ultra Male. I have owned all 3 of these and to me it is nothing like Layton. Layton to me is a sweet apple, smooth vanilla and sandalwood, which is not like Hard Candy at all. The comparison to Le Male i can kind of see, except this is like a darker version of Le Male, which i love. But i would still advise you to test it first.

Also i had been looking so long for a comparison between Hard Candy and Hard Candy Elixir, but i couldnt find it at all. But now that i have them both i am going to compare them. If you are looking for that look on my profile for my Hard Candy Elixir review

I’ll take ya to the candy shop
Hard candy is an excellent fragrance, I would even go as far as saying this fragrance is one of the best when it comes to something you can just grab and go no matter what, Signature scent worthy? Maybe, just depends on if you like it as it really is a year rounder.

Normally something like “This fragrance opens up at the top with” but no, the top and heart of this fragrance are married together and because of that so will the top and heart of this review. That being said though you can smell the citrus in this fragrance its not even close to prominent, the best way to describe how this opens up is strawberry tanghulu, drizzled with honey, and then sprinkled with dried lavender petals. You absolutely get that vanilla but that only serves to further sweeten the opening. The sweetness isn’t overpowering however as after not even a couple minutes its balanced out into a more tamed sweetness with the honey and nutmeg coming into play a little more, that is really all that defines the switch from top to the heart. In the heart all that changes is the strawberry and honey get ever more present until they’re front and center, eventually the lavender fades out and you’re left with a beautiful medley of strawberry… something??

This is when you pick up on the fact that there’s something in the way of calling this fragrance strawberry candy then it hits you. Some of the most well blended almost hidden oud and sandalwood I personally have experienced in a fragrance. It’s easily the most “friendly” oud as it almost sneaks up on you and is balanced out by the sweetness of the fragrance.

Hard candy? Definitely. Strawberry hard candy? No.

Scent 9.7/10 - Gorgeous, fruit for men don’t well.

Versatility 8.5/10 - easy dumb reach for casual occasions but look to the elixir if you want something more mature.

Sillage 9/10 - You’ll leave a scent trail behind you for the first 8 hours of wearing no question. Tows the line of being nuclear.

Durability 10/10 - Lasts as long as you could want it to last, your clothes will smell like it for a couple days for sure.

Value 10/10 - ATH has very reasonable pricing for entry to the house and for full bottles

Accessibility - 4/10 Good luck getting this straight from the retailer in America cause you honestly just wont.

Lo-li-ta
I often wonder how Aaron Terence Hughes chooses the names of his fragrances. Probably by following the meandering path of his mind, from one stray association to another.
It’s hard to ignore the reference to the film Hard Candy, or the slang term itself — meaning a young, underage girl perceived as attractive to an adult. In French, the name might have been Lolita. Lo-li-ta...
And yet, the link to the scent itself isn’t obvious. It opens on a sweet, silky lavender, lifted by citrus notes, but without making it a typical summer fragrance.
The evolution is bold, layered with vanilla, oud (ATH’s signature), honey, and patchouli.
This feels like a modern reworking of the genre defined by Le Mâle, by Jean Paul Gaultier — bold, hedonistic, and unapologetically sexy, perfect for a night out.
Perhaps the idea is to present Le Mâle’s spiritual heir: a slightly liberated father for once, dancing among girls his daughter’s age — and God knows it’s hard to keep your eyes down when you dance.
A provocative name for a beautifully composed fragrance.

A bit redundant if you own Layton, at least in the opening. Dries down to a pleasant creamy woody scent.
