A little too out there.
My journey with Thierry Mugler started with Pure Malt, possible my favorite fragrance today, and my first real, "quality" fragrance. And so when I first smelled the original I desperately wanted to like it. Badly. And I sort of did, sort of. I even went so far as to buy a bottle. Firstly, much like the other A*Men scents, the sillage and longevity are amazing. And alot of the sweet notes are done perfectly, the honey and caramel notes are balanced very well. That being said, there is something deeply off-putting in the scent as well, borderline offensive. I believe it's the coriander notes coming out, they absolutely dominate everything else for the first few minutes to half an hour. Whilst I don't hate it, for me it certainly doesn't live up to any of the Pure series, especially Pure Malt, even though Havane and Tonka are amazing too. I still wear it come winter, but only rarely, and I apply it well before I plan to appear in public, as it evolves into a truly beautiful fragrance in time. So in summary, right after application, it's too bold and exotic for my olfactory palate, so to speak, but in evolution, it becomes sweet, distinct, and very warm.

Intensely sweet.
This fragrance was another one of my blind buy successes. I tend to like sweet fragrances, and this one delivers in the most spectacular fashion. To start with the scent. To me, the citrus notes are like a punch to the nose, I can smell lemon and mandarin immediately upon application. I bought this to help me switch it up, what with my summer daily driver, Chrome Legend by Azzaro, having somewhat become mundane. Whilst these two fragrances couldn't be more different. The former being mostly just sweet, the latter being very very fresh. They both bring me back to summer days in the home country, running across fields of green grass. Like Legend, it is cheap, I got a 100 ml bottle for a 20, about what I payed for the Legend, and it is my opinion that in terms of price it is very very difficult to beat this lovely, somewhat borderline unisex EDT. That being said, I was a little disappointed by the Sillage and Longevity, the best term for them being; meh. I am a younger fella, however, and so do not quite yearn to make my presence known immediately upon entering the room. My partner however loves it, and she never fails to compliment me when I put it on. In summary, cheap fragrance, with killer performance. Maybe not something to wear daily, but great for switching up more aggressive scents on occasion.

Aggressively fresh.
To keep it short and concise, I bought this purely on the recommendations and reviews of my fellow fragrance aficionados here on parfumo.com. As it was cheap however, I was fully ready to accept it as a loss should it disappoint. Long story short, it does not. The sillage and longevity are frankly astonishing for such a cheap fragrance. On my skin I can perceive it to some extent for up to 8 hours and friends tell me it lingers in the air hours after I've applied it. When it comes to the scent, my nose isn't quite as refined as some of the veterans here, though to me, it is almost too sharp at first spray. It is fresh to the point of being slightly cloying, it reminds me a little of some kind of cleaning product. However it quickly mellows out and diversifies, allowing for the apple notes and a little of the vetiver to come through. I hope the moderators will forgive me referencing the price which I payed, to really hammer home the value you get with this powerhouse. I spent only 20 eu on a 125 mil bottle that so far refuses to budge, appearing just as full as the day I bought it. All in all, a great scent around the office, or just for day to day wear during the spring and summer, with surprising longevity for such a small price.
