Elegant, Sophisticated, & Gorgeous
Private Collection is a most delicious, enticing, voluptuous, sexy, ELEGANT, and strong (think character) scents that I have ever smelt. It was my signature fragrance in the 1980s, and I have never stopped loving it. I read that it was named Private Collection because it was amongst Estee Lauder's private fragrances--unavailable on the market. I also once read that it was Grace Kelly's favourite perfume, and I can certainly understand why! Good grief it is heavenly! I feel sophisticated, elegant, voluptuous, and simply quite happy any time I wear this mesmerising fragrance. Private Collection is truly a classic. If Estee Lauder ever stopped making it, I would proclaim it a crime against humanity to have stopped.

Top Notes: Orange Blossom, Linden Blossom, Green Notes, Hyacinth, Lemon, and Bergamot.

Heart Notes: Mignonette, Honeysuckle, Chrysanthemum, Jasmine, Pear, Ylang-Ylang, Rose, and Narcissus.

Base Notes: Coriander, Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli, Musk, Oak Moss, Heliotrope, and Cedar.

I cannot wear most Estee Lauder scents (they literally make me ill), but Private Collection is definitely the exception! Wearing it to bed tonight and am sure to have very sweet dreams indeed! I cannot imagine how anyone could not be immediately and totally seduced by this fragrance!!

Rich Smoky Incense & Juicy Dark Blue Fruits
Dark Kiss is one of my favourite Bath and Body Works fragrances. This review is primarily for the body spray.

Top Notes: Incense, Bergamot, Blackberry, and Mirabelle.

Heart Notes: Geranium, Amber, Musk, Rose, and Peony.

Base Notes: French Labdanum, Vanilla, Resin, Vetyver, and Musk.

As with all of my B&BW fragrances, I layer the matching products. I begin with the shower gel followed by the body spray and a bit of body creme and/or lotion. Layering easily gives me 12 to 14 hours of longevity, which is better than many of my much more expensive fragrances, and this fact never ceases to astound me.

Dark Kiss opens on my skin with delicious, rich incense, juicy dark berries, and fragrant mirabelle. I do not detect the bergamot, but mine is not a highly tutored nose, so others may be able to detect it. It smells wonderful from the very first spritz.

As Dark Kiss dries down, the incense, blackberry, and mirabelle persist; and, vanilla, musk, and a bit of rose join in. I do not detect any of the other notes, but once again I would point out that mine is not a highly tutored nose, and you may be able to detect more of the notes.

Dark Kiss is a deliciously sweet, fruity, incensey, and, dark. It is a wonderful Autumn and Winter fragrance, but I wear it any time the fancy strikes me. I even wear it during the hottest weather months, and it works on me because I am indoors most of the time in air conditioning. It may not work as well in hot weather if you are out of doors a lot. I often choose Dark Kiss as my bedtime fragrance because it imparts a soothing, restful feeling in me. I love smelling it as I drift off to sleep.

The shower gel smells just like the body spray to my nose, and using it scents the loo beautifully. The fragrance carries through the rest of the house in fact, and it smells lovely. I have not purchased the EdT because I cannot see how it could be better than the body spray which is a divine scent, almost spiritual in character. I find that the body creme and lotion do not impart as much scent as the shower gel and body spray, but they do help add a bit of depth whence combined with the shower gel and body spray.

If you like sweet, incensey fragrances, you will likely love Dark Kiss. I have used more expensive incense fragrances such as Piguet's Casbah, and whilst I like Casbah and would recommend it, I think I like Dark Kiss even better. Dark Kiss, of course, is much less expensive, so that is an added bonus.

I never cease to surprise myself by how much I enjoy my B&BW fragrances. I enjoy the entire aesthetic experience of bathing with the shower gels, followed by a liberal spritzing of the body sprays and application of the body cremes or lotions to areas that tend toward dryness such as elbows. Using my B&BW products is much more of an "aesthetic experience" than simply spritzing an EdT or EdP all by itself. Layering the shower gel, body spray, and body creme and/or lotion is an act of lavish self-pampering for me, and I highly recommend you try it.

These scores are within the B&BW family of scents. They are not meant to be compared to the same type of scored given to a Guerlain or a Chanel for example.

Wonderful Amber Gourmand to Always Keep in One's Collection
Firstly, let me say that the Sensual Amber range from Bath & Body Works is still available on-line. It is no longer available in their stores, though. Secondly, let me say thatI have nothing bad to say about this fragrance whatsoever. This is one of my all time favourite fragrances!

Top Notes: Plum, Forest Fruits, and Bergamot.

Heart Notes: Iris, Orange Blossom, Rose, and Lotus.

Base Notes: Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli, Musk, Vanilla, and Praline.

Sensual Amber is the first B&BW fragrance I ever purchased, and what a delightful and delicious surprise it has been to use it. I ordered the bath gel, body mist, lotion, and body cream. I loved the fragrance so much that I later ordered a bottle of the EdT which has been discontinued since then--no longer available either in stores or on the website, but I think the body spray smells even better than the EdT, so it is not a huge loss. (You will find the best prices on all B&BW products in June and December during the semi-annual clearance sales.)

I detect wonderful, warm, sweet amber, vanilla, praline, sandalwood, orange blossom, and a tiny bit of iris in this, but I cannot quite distinguish the other notes in the pyramid, but I do not have a highly tutored nose, either. The fragrance is sweet, warm, a bit woody, balsamic, and a bit powdery. It is a sensual, sexy fragrance just as one would expect. I LOVE IT! I layer the various products and get outstanding longevity of easily 12 to 14 hours. Projection and sillage are moderate to high on me if the products are layered. I use the body spray liberally and apply a fair amount of the body creme on elbows, knees, and feet, and at this price point, why not do? This is a fabulous fragrance that I cannot imagine ever being without again. I hope B&BW never decides to completely cease production of it.

I feel this is a fairly feminine fragrance, but I could imagine the right man wearing it as well. It is definitely a superb choice for both Autumn and Winter; however, I think it can also work in Spring and Summer, especially indoors with air conditioning, so long as it is not over sprayed. I love to wear Sensual Amber to bed because it smells so yummy and delicious--the perfect entrée to sweet dreams. : ) Technically, Sensual Amber is classified as a gourmand fragrance, and it is such, but I think it also qualifies as an Oriental due to the amber and sandalwood notes.

Kudos to the nose behind this fragrance, whoever s/he is!! Five Big Stars!!! and two Thumbs WAY UP!!!

Beautiful Floriental
Oscar is the first perfume by Oscar de la Renta. It was created by Jean-Louis Sieuzac (who also created the legendary Opium) in 1977 and won the FiFi Award in 1978. It is described as "a classic, floral, slightly sharp perfume of aromatic notes of lavender, rosemary and carnation, with sweet, powdery, musky base notes."

Top Notes: Coriander, Orange Blossom, Peach, Gardenia, Bergamot, Cloves, and Basil.

Heart Notes: Rosemary, Cyclamen, Carnation, Tuberose, Lavender, Orchid, Jasmine, Ylang-Ylang, Rose, and Iris.

Base Notes: Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli, Lavender, Opoponax, Coconut, Cloves, Veytever, Myrrh, and Musk.

I first wore Oscar in the very early 1980s, and it was so beautiful. Whilst it is still a beautiful fragrance, it has obviously been reformulated, and it does not smell quite the same as it did whence first I wore it. Now, it has a sort of "cardboard" smelling note that I truly dislike; however, I still like it overall, and I still keep it in rotation. Projection, sillage, and longevity are not as good as they once were, either, so reapplication may be necessary after three to four hours on skin.

Oscar is a very feminine, very romantic floriental fragrance. I read that it was supposed to be similar to Guerlain L'Heure Bleue. I do not find it especially similar to L'Heure Bleue, but it is a wonderful fragrance and a classic in its own right.

I do not find it either woody or aromatic. It is more floral, spicy, and a bit powdery to my nose. It is sweet but not candy sweet. I LOVE the carnation in this which is a bit sweet. The dry down is lovely despite the "cardboardy" note I find in it now. In fact, the entire composition is beautiful from top to bottom notes, sans the cardboard note.

On my skin, the projection is moderate; the sillage is moderate+; and, the longevity is good--easily four to five hours. I am surprised at how affordable is Oscar EdT given how nice it is. I purchased a new 3.3 oz bottle of it on eBay for only $20 plus shipping. It was a much more expensive fragrance whence I wore it in the 1980s, and as I recall, I wore an EdP of it in those days that I do not find available now for some reason. Today, Oscar is an affordable masterpiece within reach of even the most budget conscious amongst us.

If you like feminine florientals with good projection, sillage, and longevity, I do not see how you could go wrong with Oscar. It is appropriate for all seasons and would work well during both the day time and the night time. It is a pretty scent that has nothing offensive about it whatsoever. I think it would be appropriate in virtually any venue including an office setting. It is elegant, feminine, and very ladylike. Personally, I do not see gentlemen wearing this one as it is so feminine. Highly recommended.

Naturalistic Roses & Jasmine Coupled with Aldehydes
The website does not have either the EdP or the EdT listed, so I am posting my review here. This review refers to the EdT formulation.

Top Notes: Aldehydes, Peach, Green Leafs.

Heart Notes: Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, May Rose, Ylang-Ylang, Tuberose.

Base Notes: Sandalwood, Musk, Civet.

I own both the EdP and the EdT. I owned the EdT first and liked it enough to purchase the EdP. This review is for the current formulation Joy EdT.

Joy is a very naturalistic floral with no added sweetness to it whatsoever. Upon first application, all I was able to detect was heavy aldehydes, a few dozen roses, and a lot of jasmine. Then, after the dry down, I could begin to vaguely detect other unnamed, lovely flowers with rose and jasmine still predominate. I am unable to specifically discern either ylang-ylang, which I love, peach, or sandalwood at any point during Joy's mild development. Unfortunately, my nose is not well tutored enough for me to identify all of the florals, but they do smell lovely. If this had been strictly roses only, I probably would not have added the EdP to my wardrobe.

Joy is a very feminine, floral fragrance. I personally do not detect a powdery note in it. I also do not detect anything even vaguely animalic in it either, although many wearers swear it has a strong civet note. This may be true of the vintage extrait, but I have never smelt the vintage, so I really cannot say. To my nose, Joy is just a feminine floral with very heavy doses of roses and jasmine that mostly overpower any other floral notes. In my mind's eye, I can imagine Katherine Hepburn's character wearing this in the Philadelphia story. It somehow fits both the actress and her character in that film.

Joy is reminiscent of that deep, intoxicatingly floral smell one would detect if one walked into a small florist's shop where all that is sold is flowers---the type of mum and pop florist shop of my childhood which I believe are now extinct. Those shops largely have given way to the big stores as have the small mum and pop grocery stores of yesteryear, but this fragrance is definitely reminiscent of those small florist shops of yesteryear, and because of this, I find Joy nostalgic.

I can detect the EdT on myself pretty well for about two to three hours. I do not know if anyone could smell it on me after that or not. Sillage and projection are moderate. Longevity is moderate.

Overall, Joy simply is a nice floral fragrance that reminds one of beautiful, wealthy, young ladies of another era. I say this because flowers used to be a lot more expensive than most are these days. "In the old days," it cost a pretty penny to send a dozen roses to one's sweetheart, and I am sure that in the midst of the depression, it must have cost much more, hence the description of Joy as the costliest parfum in the world at the time it was launched in the midst of the Great Depression.

I like Joy, and I think it would be appropriate for both daytime and evening wear, church wear, weddings, and any time one wants to affect a feminine, soft, rosy floral. I think Joy is definitely a year round fragrance, too, but I expect one might enjoy it most during Spring and Summer. Purchase the EdT if you want the lightest version. Purchase the EdP if you want a slightly deeper, richer floral.

Between my bottle of EdT and my bottle of EdP, I think I have enough Joy to last me for the rest of my life. If I ever were to run out, I might look for a vintage extrait, but I do not think I would repurchase either the EdT or the EdP again because overall florals are not my favourite parfum category, although there are many that I like. I lean more toward the various types of Orientals, i.e. Oriental floral, Oriental woody, Oriental spicy, and, Oriental vanilla. However, if you love rose and jasmine, you will likely be very pleased with Joy. It is a classic that everyone should at least try. If you want to keep one classic floral in your fragrance wardrobe, Joy would be a good choice.

The below ratings reflect the fact that florals are not my favourite fragrance category, but I do feel that Joy is a good quality fragrance. Also, the below ratings are for the first three hours. Thereafter, Joy pretty much turns into a skin scent on me at best. Neither the EdT nor the EdP is especially long lasting on my skin.
