I’m sure I’ll make some enemies now, but I find it quite surprising that the scent seems to be received rather well. :D Yesterday, I quickly sprayed it on my wrist out of curiosity. Since the year 2000 (I’m getting old...) I have been using and loving Hypnotic Poison EDT by Dior. So I know the vintage version, and yes, it has been diluted and reformulated, but I still like it. Now the new Scandal is said to be the prettier version of HP. Ahem... cough, cough...

But let’s start from the beginning: Shortly after spraying, the top note is just sweet, very sweet. But in a way that feels - to me - somehow flat. So, nothing layered or complex. Just flat-sweet. And synthetic... yuck. After a while, there really is a resemblance to HP. But it smells as if one simply extracted an element or a layer from HP and amplified it. An element from the "upper layers." The deep, darker, and also seductive aspects are missing. At the same time, and now we come to the main problem, a strange and very unpleasant sweat note develops after a while. It remains extremely persistent. By the way: while HP smells more like roasted, dark almond, here you are surrounded by a "fresh" and young nut that has just been cut open. Unroasted.

It then continues to be flat-sweet and slowly fades away as a scent...

So, I don’t know. It smells to me like a bad, I emphasize bad copy of HP. If you like this one, please try HP.

...at least that's what I've heard about Oud Nude once or twice. Recently, I had the spontaneous pleasure of receiving a small sample as a bonus while at the Souk. My heart skipped a little, as I have been interested in this fragrance for a while, but had never had the chance to test it. Hesitantly (you don't want to waste any of the sample), I spray it on my wrist. A deep breath. Oh wow, what is that? At first sniff, a very gentle oud with a delicate, sweet undertone. Hmmm, I can also detect almond. I am spontaneously quite taken with it, as I often find myself at odds with strong oud fragrances that are mixed with, for example, vanilla... after a while, I always have a very strong association with a "men's fragrance" (even though that doesn't really exist, I know), at least for me it's too masculine. This is different! I am enveloped by an extremely feminine oud interpretation, almost lovely. But, oh dear, it somehow keeps getting more intense... While I initially found the fragrance very pleasantly balanced in terms of sweetness, it is now becoming sweeter by the minute. And more intense. Very intense. It reminds me of the potency of an overdose of Angel by Thierry Mugler... I walk through the streets, Berlin at 0 degrees and a light wind, and yet I can smell it. Through my coat, through my gloves. Very sweet. Very very sweet. Too sweet. Help! In the supermarket, I wonder if the woman at the checkout is looking at me so furtively because of my intoxicating... uh... overwhelming... scent? Feeling a bit uncomfortable, I make my way home. A few hours later, it becomes softer. And softer. The woodiness recedes more and more with each passing hour. What remains is a caressing and cuddly, but still very gourmand and completely unwooded sweetness for me. Too sweet. Unfortunately, not my thing. But, an intriguing fragrance with an interesting development and a monster sillage. Please do not overdo it! :D

Exciting. While I am currently testing Baccarat Rouge thoroughly (EDP and Extrait), I also got a sample of Cloud. I had heard beforehand that it is different from Baccarat, but still similar, just somehow "younger" and - in the worst case - simultaneously "more headache-inducing." Okay, I cautiously applied it to my wrist. A strong, slightly fruity, and somehow piercing sweetness immediately rises to my nose. Quite perfumey, slightly soapy, but in a certain way also quite light and fluffy. A completely different impression than with BKR 540, which strikes me as much deeper, darker, and also heavier (in a positive way...) right away. I don't pick out the lavender in the top note, but I do smell the pear. After a while, it transitions into a vanilla-creamy and coconut-heavy cloud dream, still very sweet, somehow girlish. Very harmless, but quite pleasant when applied sparingly. But where is the often-cited similarity to BKR 540? Slightly puzzled, I let the scent be for now, go out, do some shopping, write emails, and suddenly it wafts over me: oh, there it is! A delicate hint of what I know and love. Still tamed, still quite gentle, not very loud, but clearly very similar in the base to its big (expensive) sister. A scent that is certainly well-made; I can actually imagine it better on younger girls than BKR 540. Personally, however, I miss the depth, the somewhat contrasting and potent aspects. The edges and corners. Nevertheless, a nice scent, especially in the base, and worth considering, especially if you have to watch your wallet...
