Edit: after my second full wearing of the stuff, I’ve lowered my rating down very low. The scent is just repulsive to me, through and through. Throughout the entirety of the scent, all I could pick up was cheap lavender, coconut suntan lotion. I had a headache, and was nauseated most of the day catching wiffs of it. Just gross. If anyone wants a practically full bottle fairly cheap, let me know.

To my nose, the majority of this fragrance smells like synthetic lavender and coconut suntan lotion. I don’t really smell honey, and I definitely don’t smell tobacco. How people smell tobacco in this, I have no idea. It’s not an awful smell by any means, I just don’t love it as much as some of the other people on here.

100% unisex, but I would say it leans slightly masculine.

The new formulation of Layton smells incredible, but the performance is pitiful. 4-5 hours of longevity max with 2 hours of decent sillage.

My 78% bottle from a few years ago was an absolute beast, 10+ hours of longevity with violent projection and sillage.

I don’t think this is worth the full boutique price anymore, I would try and find it at a discounter if you can, because the performance to price ratio just don’t match up any longer.

Managed to pick up a brand new 77% pre-reformulation batch. Smells extremely luxurious and warm. The apple notes mixed with the vanilla, patchoulli and wood notes is amazing. It’s definitely a very mysterious, unique smell that will turn heads. I’ve gotten so many random people asking what carlisle is when I’m wearing it which is insane, because that doesn’t happen to me with any other fragrance i own besides maybe aventus. This bottle I have is extremely, extremely strong. I put on three sprays before I went out, and within 10 minutes, my brother could smell me all the way from downstairs and said the entire house smelled. I guess that could be a good or a bad thing. You can EASILY fill up a large room with 2-3 sprays. Carlisle will overpower every other fragrance in the room if someone happens to be wearing something. Longevity is nearly eternal, 24+ hours i can still smell it radiating off of me before I’ve showered. I’m convinced if I didn’t shower this would last two or three days on me lol, that’s how potent this stuff is.

Newer batches don’t perform as strong but are still very VERY good. The newer batches also have a more “medicinal” opening before the dry down starts. My 77% bottle smells a tad smoother.

Edit: after more testing with an 81% formulation tester, the two are very very close. After the first 20ish minutes, they smell identical. The 77% formulation will give you an extra couple hours of noticeable longevity. I wouldn’t worry if you have a newer batch, still smells unbelievable and performs like a champ.

Carlisle is worth every penny, even at full retail price. I paid 400 USD, and I have zero regrets, I would do it again tomorrow.

I've tried oud wood off and on over the last 10-15 years and its progressively gotten weaker and weaker and weaker. My most recent bottle, which was given to me as a gift (wasn't going to spend my own money on it) lasts AT MOST 30 minutes on my skin before it fades away to nothingness and can hardly be smelled. Forget about projection, this fragrance has 0 sillage, nothing, zilch, nada. This bottle was from Nordstrom, so it's authentic. The fact that they're charging $400 for this watered down garbage is disgusting and the definition of corporate greed.

the one upside is that it smells absolutely incredible, and i've yet to smell anything else like it. Do not spend your hard earned money on this trash in 2023.

So I finally got a small sample of this yesterday after surprisingly never having smelled it before and all i can say is…this stuff is absolutely repulsive. Within 15 minutes of wearing only three sprays i had a splitting migraine (im guessing from the overload of ambroxen). I don’t know how anybody could possibly enjoy this fragrance. Smells like a dirty, musky old man that hasn’t showered in weeks with some spices sprinkled on top. Smells like a cheap, synthetic, chemically mess. Want to smell cheap and like every college frathouse d-bag? Wear this

The fact that this is as popular as it is truly shocks me
