Strong character companion for nightlife with edges and green oriental flair
On the occasion of my second community birthday, I would like to write another review; the Layton Exclusif has prevailed over the Sedley from the same house and the Nishane B-612. The reason might sound familiar to some perfume enthusiasts: You test a fragrance several times that is initially difficult to grasp, understand or even like on the journey; at some point, however, there is a caesura (if you give said fragrance further chances) and said initial uncertainty turns violently into the opposite. This was the case for me with Layton Exclusif - after two bottlings and several visits to the perfumery. A great olfactory experience, if the aspects of understanding + liking were not 'instant-love' but the result of a process! It can be assumed that the stay in the perfume wardrobe lasts much longer with increased appreciation!

The Laotian oud at the heart can be detected very quickly here and, together with the guaiac wood, makes up the striking woody character. This has a slight animalic undertone for me, which really suits the fragrance very well! I was never a real fan of the normal Layton. I deliberately start the fragrance description with the heart, as this is the strongest part on my skin. It also starts very quickly after the opening and lingers long into the drydown. The resulting oriental, I am unsure whether this word actually exists, even has a green-tart effect on me. I can only speculate as to why this is the case: it must be the lavender and rose geranium side players. There could well be other green-floral notes that are unlisted that create this twist. To make it a little more clear, the Epic Man by Amouage would also fall into the 'green oriental' category for me, even if the incense is of course the key player here. To summarize, the heart part is "10 out of 10": For me, the oriental facet is dry woody with a striking green-tart twist as well as a slight animalic undertone. This is more smoky and resinous than leathery. For the right man, this already creates an olfactory sex appeal uplift; for the unsuitable, however, it could seem out of place or even disturbing. I suspect that it was precisely this part that was so difficult to grasp at first, but now triggers strong delight! It's the necessary edge that makes a level 2 niche fragrance and is missing from its sweet brother.

The opening and the late drydown are so perceptible that you can recognize the relationship. Apple freshness at the beginning, which harmonizes very well with the heart notes after a few minutes. Even if you think after hours that the UR DNA has been completely stripped of its sweetness, it still becomes very cuddly with nuances of vanilla and somehow nutty at the very end, when it has completely dried down; I can hardly explain where this last subjective perception comes from. Longevity + projection are also top notch for me! I haven't looked at my watch yet, but I could still smell it on my clothes for days afterwards.

I definitely see the Layton Exklusif on sigma males with a strong character, who are already in the middle of their family and professional lives, have a clear set of values and are therefore no longer dependent or even distracted by compliments or comments that are not to the point. With his composition, especially concerning his heart, he definitely delivers an exciting, unsmoothed and green-oriental edge that makes the wearer "exclusive" and special according to the name: the composition fully justifies the name! Not a crowdpleaser, not a blind buy, but extremely positively interesting! I am very happy to have given it several chances. While my equally praised light oud representatives from Aqua di Parma and Creed primarily shine in very formal and professional settings, this one is clearly more of a pick for nightlife or for a date outside the height of summer! As a father of two, the latter is obsolete, the former unfortunately rare. But if I do end up going out for dinner and clubbing again, I've found my top in Layton Exclusif and I'll be partying it off clean and sharp dressed with a 7-day beard! Cheers!
