Chopard Oud Malaki

Can another oud be fascinating? After so many have hit the market, is there anything out there that can still thrill? Can a watch company create a perfume that makes one say wow? Yes indeed.

Chopard, the maker or such perfumes as Casmir and Wish, has come out with their own take on oud with their Oud Malaki and Rose Malaki.

I have not tried the Rose Malaki but their Oud Malaki is divine. The opening features fresh notes of lemon, artemisia and lavender which create a mesmerizing effect unlike other perfumes with this opening. What you get right away is how smooth this composition is.

The top notes blend into the middle notes perfectly: a tiny hint of tobacco and oud with a subtle spice. The blending is just superb. If there is ambergris or leather, it is very subtle.

The drydown lasts forever and brings the middle notes into a more woodsy and even a little bit of creamy softness. I am completely taken by this composition, and frankly, a little surprised by the quality. The price is perfect and the bottle reminds one of the Chopard watch legacy. This is marketed to men but is totally unisex in my opinion. I cannot wait to try its cousin Rose Malaki.
