Sneaky anise
To my nose, this has such a strong anise opening. The cinnamon and mandarin are there, most surely, but the role that anise plays in Egoïste I feel is often neglected.
The anise-orange hues always bring to memory another famous amber perfume - Opium Pour Homme by YSL.
The animalic-urine nuance is present throughout and gives Egoïste a more serious timbre.
Muguet, berries, sandalwood
There's a certain berry nuance which goes perfectly with the sandalwood base. It's quite soapy and therefore most likely heavy on muguet molecules. It reminds me of Cool Water Woman and Burberry Baby Touch to be honest.
Absolutely no skank or civet, ylang-ylang or tuberose. These seem to be misplaced.
Lasts a long time, and projection is quite good too!
A good "mishmash"
Essentially a sort of Gucci Pour Homme I/Azzaro Visit with an emphasis on amber and labdanum, not so much on the austerity of woods. However, the 'amberwoods' are a bit more in your face, compared to the scents mentioned above.
Ménardo's signature balsamic touch is impeccable as always.
Overall it's a solid scent, despite bringing little to no novelty.
Clean, long lasting skin scent
This has a very specific musky, soapy smell that I have also encountered in some diapers and baby wipes. Despite this unfortunate association, the scent itself is actually really good.
It's quite an undeciferable perfume. There is however an extremely light clove accent that permeates the whole perfume and one I find similar to 212 CH for Women (the very first one).
You will feel it throughout the day if you're careful and apply it away from the nose. It is quiet and never projects heavily, but I have felt it on other people at a distance before.
This is review is for a bottle bought this year.
