Busy monastery garden
Hortus transports me to a busy monastery garden on a summer vacation. It's midday, you're crawling from shade to shade and have picked up a lemony scent early in the morning. At your feet is a lush, well-tended monastery garden: rows and rows of lavender are in bloom and there is a hive of activity between the individual plants. Not because of the people - the garden is almost empty - but because of the bees and bumblebees. They are buzzing everywhere, but the scent is not only citrusy and flowery, it is also green. To stay with the monastery garden metaphor: Some things must have been meticulously trimmed back this morning.

Hortus is not an eye-catching fragrance that informs the whole room of its arrival. It is much more the radiance, calm and tanned skin that you wear and convey after a summer vacation. For me, the fragrance embodies exactly this feeling!

Pause for a moment.
So what do you say to a fragrance that means so much?

When I close my eyes, I can feel the lilac bush in full bloom in my parents' garden. The sun is shining, but it's not too warm, no. A gentle breeze is blowing. It's exactly the kind of sunshine that gives you strength after a long winter. Strength, but also hope. Perhaps also a little anticipation for the summer that is just around the corner.

The fragrance smells of lilac, but it is not photorealistic. There are other fragrances that do this better. But it gives and can do so much more, namely evoke a feeling: Beyond the lilac, it is pleasantly soft, powdery, light and floating. Already present, but never disturbing. A little like an expensive body lotion - no, it's never sticky! So perhaps more like a bubble bath?

It is cuddly. Soft and delicate. And special too. Especially because it takes me back to a very special day - my wedding day. I certainly could have spent longer looking for my wedding perfume. But perhaps it was fate that I asked for a lilac fragrance and the nice employee led me straight here. And what can I say - it was love at first sight (for the second time). That's when it happened to me.

And so it was that on this hot August day, I was not only accompanied by my loved ones, but also by a piece of spring. And as fleeting as the lilacs are, so are the most beautiful days in life. That's a shame, but not sad. Because there are always moments when you can pause for a moment. Not only to look back on the beautiful things we have already experienced, but also to look forward to all the beautiful things we have yet to experience. Because the fragrance gives me this certainty - the beauty is just waiting for me.
