Are there really summer perfumes?
This article is not trying to prove anything. For me it's all a matter of taste and matter of personality. The market of course wants us to consume, so when the temperatures rise the market will say "come on you need a perfume that smells like the breeze that blows over the sea surface towards your head. So buy all fragrances with calypsone, the synthetic note that smells like a salty breeze, and buy all fragrances with notes that echo the total surrender of sunbathing on a beach of the Mediterranean sea such as lavender, cypress, geranium leaves, herbs such as basil, artemisia, mint, and rich citrus fruits like Amalfi lemons, bergamot, green clementine and neroli. Or the market will catch your attention with different and more exotic places such as Hawaiian florals, coconut water and pineapples and green mango farms.
However, in my education and to my character and judgement there are not summer perfumes and winter perfumes. There are fresh perfumes, floral and fruity perfumes, amber and woodsy perfumes, oud perfumes and smokey resinous perfumes.
Anyway I cannot convince anybody who insists being influenced by youtubers who sell perfumes online. I am not God.
For summer and higher temperatures I suggest lighter and brighter perfumes, florals with musk and citrus fruits such as my favorite Pure Twist Debois or a sweet green fougere such as
Equipage Eau de Toilette . Please contradict me or agree with me.
Also, as a fan of men's fragrances from the 70's - 80's, that was a time when men designer houses only had one or two fragrances specifically marketed towards men. Most men chose a fragrance and wore the same thing all year round, hot or cold or in between.
I agree that what is a "summer" fragrance is very subjective, and it's true that businesses capitalize on these change in seasons to persuade us to buy more.
I think it's interesting to test fragrances normally reserved for colder weather, to see how they perform differently in warmth.
I haven't tried Pure Twist Debois or Equipage, what do you love most about each of these?
Thank you for sharing, I enjoyed reading your thoughts!
My idea of summer isn’t everyone’s. I lived in the California desert, 100 miles from the sea, and where in summer the temperature would rise to 120F. I didn’t want to wear fragrance at all in that heat. In summer in Europe I might wear Mugler’s Cologne if it wasn’t discontinued, or perhaps a summer Le Male des ete/Eau fraiche.
