Why bother with old school fragrances while nowadays' perfumery is linear and consists of 3-7 notes?

I got a small bottle 30ml. of 1970 Hermes' fougere for men "Equipage" and before trying it on me I sprayed only once on a thin cotton scarf hanging behind the bedroom's door. Then I left to go out for lunch to a deli with friends. It was after noon that we left the house and came back early evening, but the sun in Greece in the summer sets about 9 pm. That one sprayer of Equipage Hermes had filled the air of the bedroom with a sweet and spicy fresh fougere no barber managed ever to get! I thought tomorrow I should try this treasure fragrance so the next morning I came to the site of parfumo to read the notes of the rather expensive treasure. Vintage perfumes on Amazon cost an arm and a leg. The truth is Hermes still sells Equipage for 120€ ,but they have modernised, simplified the formula. So this is not what I wanted . From the 22 notes of the formula they kept about seven. So it is now a similar frag but not the initial masterpiece.

So you see now why this elaborate art of perfumery is considered high skill perfection while most contemporary fragrances they carry seven notes maximum! So it hurts me to read comments such as "old church" ,"scent for grannies","outdated and vintage"  etc If you don't like fougeres,Chypres, spicy oriental woodsy ones, aromatised with the sweetest resins like myrr and benzoin do not critisise these masterpieces eg "Opium" for women 1977 YSL

Stick to the modern world of yours with the 5-7 notes maximum!
