Green, Fresh & very Potent
Sauvage hasn’t been my cup of tea lately, so I’ve been on the hunt for a new summer staple. I stumbled upon the decant of a fragrance that’s supposed to be a grown-up version of Sauvage. Intrigued, I gave it a try, and guess what? It’s absolutely amazing! This fragrance is a refreshing and powerful twist on the best parts of Sauvage. I’m definitely not going to buy another bottle of Sauvage once I run out of it, this will be my summer freshie moving forward.
Oh, and by the way, this fragrance shares DNA with both Sauvage & Office for Men from Fragrance One.

Hug for the senses
Story Time: Back in 2019, I was on my honeymoon in Switzerland, and I stayed at the Sheraton in Zurich. They had this amazing set of soap, shampoo, and lotion called Le Gran Bain. It was like a little slice of heaven!

The occasion was romantic, and the Swiss countryside was just breathtaking. But amidst all that beauty, there was this incredible scent that lingered in the air. It was like a whisper of love, and it became synonymous with Switzerland in my mind.

Fast forward to today, and I’m feeling a strong nostalgia for that scent. But guess what? It’s nowhere to be found! I did some digging and found out that Sheraton had commissioned the founder of Byredo to create it as a unisex fragrance that’s both modern and classic.

As I was exploring Hong Kong and Macau during my holiday, I stumbled upon a Byredo store in Londoner. I couldn’t resist trying it out, and to my surprise, it was almost identical to Le Gran Bain! It’s a bit more floral and less masculine, but it definitely has me dreaming up another honeymoon in Interlaken.

The scent is incredibly soft and has a minimal sillage. It lasts for 8-12 hours with just two puffs, which is perfect for me. (Any more, and it turns a bit too feminine for my taste.)

Overall, I’d rate it 10/10 and consider it excellent value for money.

By the way, I wear it to bed right before I hug my wife to dreamland. It’s like a little hug for my senses!

Absolu Aventus has a Big Brother
My brother purchased a 20ml bottle of the Morning Chess perfume, and he mentioned that it smells very similar to Aventus. When I tried the perfume myself, I noticed that while it does share some notes, such as the pineapple note, with Aventus, it is actually quite different. This scent is darker, greener, and heavier, with more pronounced leather notes. This was roughly one and a half years ago. Recently, I had the opportunity to try the Creed Absolu Aventus, and I immediately noticed that the opening of Absolu Aventus and Morning Chess are very similar. In fact, to me the dry down of Morning Chess is actually more appealing than the dry down of Absolu Aventus.

I think it's essential to give credit to the creator of this perfume, as some people may be biased against it because the same perfumer has also created fragrances for Zara. However, this perfume is expertly crafted, long-lasting, and has a decent scent profile that is uplifting, masculine, and powerful. The sillage is average or slightly below average, but overall, it's a well-crafted fragrance. One thing I feel it lacks is a hint of freshness. My personal secret is that I mix one puff of Dior Sauvage EDT with six puffs of Morning Chess, resulting in a nice, masculine, leathery, Aventus-style fragrance that stays fresh.

Overall, if you can get it for the right price, this is a very good purchase. I bought my bottle for 13,500 Indian rupees, which is roughly equivalent to $158 US Dollars.

Smells like Aventus before it got formulated
I received a miniature sample of this perfume, and as a long-time fan of fragrances similar to Aventus from 2016 or earlier, I was excited to try it. This perfume definitely scratches that itch, as it smells very similar to the opening of the original Aventus. Over time, it evolves into a mix of the original Aventus, blending about 50% Creed Aventus with 50% Zara Vibrant Leather. Throughout its duration, the perfume doesn't change much, sticking to the opening notes of these two fragrances, which are excellent.

I found this fragrance to be very enjoyable overall, and as it evolves, it doesn't become soapy or develop the cheap, dirty wood notes that Zara Vibrant Leather can have. Instead, it stands on its own, feeling fresh and castellan. One drawback, however, is the sillage, which is extremely poor. While those around you may not be able to smell it, you'll still be able to smell it on yourself and likely be pleased with it. The perfume lasted a good 8-12 hours on me.

I'm considering trying the Elixir variant of this perfume, and depending on how it compares to the Eau de Parfum, I may end up ordering one of them. Overall, if the price is right, I would definitely recommend this perfume as a must-buy.
