YSL Y EDP you know what it means to me
YSL Y EDP, at first glance, sounds like a modern rap crew from Generation Z. But it stands for a great Eau de Parfum from Yves Saint Laurent. Previous flankers of the Y line are completely unknown to me, so I am only referring to my experience with this flanker.

I discovered the 60ml bottle including a 10ml travel spray at my trusted perfumery. I had actually been eyeing La Nuit de L'Homme for a while, which is why I was drawn directly to the Yves Saint Laurent section. Then I noticed the Y. Of course, I had seen it and its predecessors before, but I had never smelled it.

And? Better than expected! A clean, blue, and pleasant men's fragrance. Nothing extraordinarily special, but also not too generic. YSL really hit the nail on the head here and created a modern classic. In my opinion, this fragrance suits any occasion and any age. I can easily imagine an 18-year-old as well as a 50-year-old wrapped in this scent.

The apple and ginger provide a fresh opening and are clearly dominant. After that, the fragrance remains quite linear, with a few calmer and warmer notes joining in to round it out for the rest of the time. Thus, it becomes significantly more refined and less youthful over time.

Sillage and projection are really good. The scent is enveloping without being overpowering. Various positive feedback from female colleagues confirmed my assumption. The projection is impressive over many hours. It has effortlessly made its way into my weekly rotation of office fragrances, and it is likely to stay there for a long time.

The Soundtrack to Youth in the 2000s
Ah yes, Jil Sander Sun Men. Just the thought of the bottle makes me reminisce. I received the EDT + shower gel combo for my birthday somewhere between the ages of 13 and 15; my mom must have really cared about me. My first real date was accompanied by this fragrance. My first visit to a disco was accompanied by this fragrance. Probably every memorable event of my youth was accompanied by this fragrance, an absolute classic among summer and youthful scents.

Along with Bruno Banani Man and Puma Jamaica, Jil Sander Sun Men was indeed the soundtrack of my youth. I think many people around 30 years old today can confirm this. But among these three, Sun Men is, in my opinion, by far the best fragrance and still rightly a bestseller to this day. If I could only smell Sun Men for the rest of my life, that would be perfectly fine.

However, with Paco Rabanne's 1 Million, a new chapter was supposed to open for me. Practically overnight, the three mentioned fragrances became uninteresting to me, and I was now on a larger scale. The chapter of youthful cheapies was, for the time being, closed for me.

Until a few weeks ago. At the perfume outlet I trust, there was nothing interesting on offer. I had or had already tried most of the fragrances. Just like Sun Men, actually. My gaze brushed over the well-known EDT + shower gel gift set. However, unlike the thousand times before, this time my gaze lingered. A spray for old times' sake. My brain was haunted by nostalgia flashbacks like rarely before. Nothing could help it; I had to take the set for €20.

This citrusy freshness, this pleasant sweetness, this youthful zest for life. This fragrance simply holds a very special place in my heart. An absolute bang for the buck in the summer segment. And contrary to my expectations, still perfectly wearable even at over 30 years old. Only the season and the occasion have to be right. Summer can come!

Arabic Fruit at a Great Price
Some time ago, I was still a bit short on my order value to get free shipping. So, I sorted the perfumes by price. Qaed al Fursan immediately caught my eye. I quickly checked on Parfumo; it is said to be an Aventus clone, smelling of pineapple and oud, thank you, I’ll take it. I was supposed to pay €11 for 100ml. What? Is this real life?

Arrived, unpacked, applied - wow. I didn’t expect that. The pineapple initially dominates strongly, then fades a bit and the saffron comes through. The pineapple note is amazing, not synthetic at all. In my opinion, it fits into the Aventus-like category but is not a direct clone and shouldn’t be viewed as such. It is in a class of its own, especially at this price. I really don’t know any other fragrance with a pineapple note that can compete with this one. And that is already quite incredible.

Sillage and longevity are okay, not bad, not amazing. But it makes for a good everyday scent without much fuss. Initially fresh and fruity, it becomes increasingly herbaceous over time, yet remains fresh. I find this combination fantastic. I enjoy wearing it, and it’s an absolute no-brainer.

Price-wise, it’s unbeatable. €11 for 100ml and still smells this good? I believe it has no equal in this price range. I’m not aware of anything comparable. Anyone can confidently add this to their cart without regretting it. Absolute recommendation.

Everything is right, except for the scent
I bought this cheapie on the recommendation of a well-known fragrance influencer. I should have passed.

I can't think of much more than intrusive, penetrating, and sour. My girlfriend described the scent as a wet dog. It is supposed to be similar to Paco Rabanne Pure XS, which I personally do not feel at all. The citrus note is just unpleasant. It does get better after a while, but not good.

The sillage is good and lives up to the "Intense" in the name. The projection/longevity is also completely fine, just personally unimportant to me since I don't like the scent.

Solid Cheapie with a Rich Grapefruit Note
Knowing that Fresh Splash is considered a little insider tip among cheapies, I blindly grabbed it during my Saturday shopping at the supermarket (the tester was empty). There were 50ml for €11, and if necessary, it would have been misused as a room fragrance.

The grapefruit is strongly noticeable at first, which I personally like. Rounded off by the basil, which adds a herbaceous note. However, it probably won't appeal to everyone (e.g., my girlfriend). It noticeably weakens in the first 10 minutes, becoming softer and less citrusy.

Among the drugstore scents, it's certainly one of the best. It doesn't have that typically generic citrus note that immediately reminds you of toilet cleaner. At the same time, it's not extraordinary, but just extraordinary enough.

Sillage and longevity are, as expected, below average. It resembles a cologne more than an EDT. For me, the application areas are after a shower post-workout, as a backup scent in the office drawer, for a Sunday at home or by the lake, and other sporty activities.
