Very masculiny
Yes, yes, gendered fragrance is not a thing. But it just has that bitter-cologne-touch-of-aftershave-head-and-shoulders-clean-skin smell. It really does. The overall aroma reminds me of getting out of the shower after using coffee scrub. Kind of earthy and moist. I don't know what it is, the citruses in the opening? Once those dissipate it's a pretty cold fig but way less sweet that you know it in popular fig perfumes. I think it's a distant cousin to Essential Parfums Fig Infusion. It also has that coldness and bitterness. If you already have it, don't bite you elbows for missing out on this one. Yet again, another frag that is way better on husband.
Spot on dupe
This is just so so so close to the og (BDK's Rogue Smoking) I find it odd it's not more popular. I got mine secondhand but new for 15 bucks. You just can't beat that. Even if it was a bit off the og, it would've been a great cheap perfume that smells of cherry, gum and cola. It's not overbearing, not overly sweet, not too much-anything. Admittedly, it might be a bit flat but again, it's so affordable with the scent this pretty that I am not mad. I think the longevity is good and I can smell it at a moderate intensity throughout the wear. Rogue Smoking is just a tad more bright, with more pop and more cherry. Here, the most forward note is vanilla but it's blended well with the rest of the notes to the point where the ensemble smells like a creamy cherry dessert without a necessarily direct, explicit cherry note.
This is a great dupe is all.
Lasts for well over three days
First time I tried this I thought it might qualify for a favourite but sadly, no. Oddly, it's too strong, if that was ever a bad thing. Rice is prominent here, but not a typical gourmand and not a typical powdery addition. It's kind of just that, rice and spices. It's blended very well but I'm not sure I get what the final blend exactly is? And it's very, very spicy. Mid-wear it rounds into a bit of a bitter ensemble that resembles liqueur notes (husband says it "smells like drunk woman"). Jokes on him because it actually suits him a lot. Last time he sprayed it, you could still feel it quite prominently three days since application, no joke.
I'm not one to define perfumes by "girly" and "manly" but something about this is particularly dark, masculine, man-like. I really wanted to like it but it's just such a heavy, spicy scent I could not get past the idea that this is a manly fragrance. That it smells of a man. I'm sure there are gals out there who would love this. It's definitely unusual and is a great perfume to explore in the niche.
Wasn't my cup of rice
Sadly, not at all what I hoped it would be (managed to sample it thanks to souk here). The top of the scent does have this kind of steam basmati savoury ricyness, but if I inhale long and really think into the scent, somewhere at the bottom there's the burnt rubber note that ever so plagues the affordable gourmand fragrances. Maybe that comes from sesame? I found that sesame in perfume and I don't get along.
I don't get anything fig here, or anything sweet even. But maybe I'm picking up on the pine (or the idea of pine) and amber listed in the notes. I almost feel a soy sauce accord somehow but that was better done by Jijide. Sadly, it doesn't work for my liking. For me the role of pine+rice-savoury-king is much better played by Sogni, which I am obsessed with.
Made me go "wow" but is ok in an of itself
Haven't gone "wow" from a sniff in a while so this was nice. I have to preface this by saying I don't have a huge of frame of reference, tea scents are not my usual reach. Still, I was curious. I sampled it in store on a paper strip. The opening was great. I also tend to dislike bergamot notes but this opened with the most gentle, muted lemon cake and cold matcha if I've ever smelled one. Lemon cake didn't feel super artificial-butter-sugar cake but rather a distant note in the composition, present but not overpowering. The main profile is dominated by sweetened matcha, kind of like, if you've ever had one, what it feels like to drink Ramune Matcha or eat a matcha flavoured lolly. I liked it quite a bit, as it seems the market is dominated by either matcha-citrus-realistic-tea combos or by matcha-latte-gourmand combos. This is again, from my rather limited matcha perfume experience. I've sniffed D'annam and obvious matcha scents and this is not similar at all. I'd say it's a distant cousin to Penahligon's Finley (horse bottle). Although White tea and mate are listed, I didn't get any of this savoury, sweaty dry tea sensation I got from a frag like Tea Service from Chasing Scents.
Some hour into spraying it, it feels like a shampoo smell but not in a bitter soapy detergent feel but in a clean, sweet skin/hair+far away sweetness of shampoo scent (if this makes sense). I don't think this will make big waves and the projection is mild but this will hit for ppl who like sweet, muted, clean scents with a tea profile
