I've tried quite a few rice fragrances this year, hoping to find the one I could add to my collection. Many of them were overly gourmand and vanilla heavy, such as
Nearly Noon,
Strawberry Mochi, and Navitus Vanilla Eclat.
White Rice is a pleasant musky orris scent but the rice note fades very quickly. However, to me, KST Rice Cake strikes the perfect balance between sweet, starchy, nutty, and musky. It is less conceptual than
L'Eau Papier Eau de Toilette and a more photorealistic Korean rice cake.
I hardly detect the green notes of fig leaf or pine needle. However, there is moderate projection and longevity in this, which far surpasses the 20-30 minutes of rice notes in the other fragrances I've mentioned above.
I have placed several orders so far from KST / Dgrayi in Los Angeles (for both, James is the perfumer and they are partner brands) and they are always a huge bundle of joy to receive. James is one of the most creative minds/noses in perfumery, and the perfumes I've tried are always high quality, with natural tinctures and rare natural ingredients that are not commonly used and novel scents that are not comparable to anything else you see in niche perfumery. I also highly recommend the Pride Discovery Set which has beautiful conceptual scents like Z Straight One and Bpussy Power.
