Male cologne mixed with lamington elements. Cake with no cake.
The lamington, for those unaware, is a sponge cake coated in a chocolate sauce and rolled in desiccated coconut . Cut into squares and joined with cream and strawberry jam. An Australian classic cake. Rumoured to be created by or for QLD governor Lord Lamington.
'Lord Lamington' is inspired by this, but interestingly is missing the main component; cake!
This is a scent you need to wear on your skin as the initial spritz, especially on a blotter paper, is quite....unique.
It opens with a nuttiness and greenness that is not sweet, actually more reminding me of weed killer or bug spray. Then it becomes sweeter,, I get a note of rum (?), slightly jammy with strawberry, and the nuttiness continues (but it is not specifically coconut).
As it develops, it becomes a sweet gourmand-- it is not juvenile, actually leaning mature.
Green, rum, gourmand, hints of cream, edge of coconut.
The scent after 6 hours (still going strong!) is so sweet, gourmand, and lactonic. Nuttiness has died down a lot. Though there is a tang of something...reading up on cypress being earthy, smoky and resinous, it must be that! It gives it a masculine edge that makes the perfume quite unisex.
Dry down is tobacco to me, why?! :( Perhaps the smokiness of cypress still lingers.
Gourmand lovers -- give it a try! It's a unisex gourmand (dare I say, more masculine leaning)
My family complimented it (even unprompted!) saying I smelt nice after it settled on my skin.
Personally not to my taste, but this is one of the first times I've been compliment sooo I might need to give it a few more tries.
I would have loved it to feature more cake inspired notes. And be even more heavier on the sweet elements.
I definitely don't think "ooh, lamington" at any point wearing this. Maybe this is what the chef or Lord Lamginton himself smelt like after making a few cakes :)
A wonderful journey it takes you on though, I love that about good quality perfumes! Every hour can be different.

Earthy & Lactonic. Not photorealistic Pavlova.
I love that this is inspired by the ingredients of a Pavlova, but for me it doesn't quite capture it in a photorealistic way.
The vetiver note is very strong in the opening; very bark-y/wood-y. There is a sweet edge to it; lime (and one sniff of passionfruit). As it continues to develop, it becomes soapy with a slight spice-- almost deodorant-like, or mens aftershave. I didn't get any lactonic note until it sat for 30+ minutes.
When the lactonic notes come through, they offer a sweet and gourmand edge. I need to experiment more with lactonics to form an opinion and compare, but wearing this has definitely made me want to! I remember thinking, 'the gourmand lovers are going to love this".
It has a dry powdery-ness reminiscent of meringue, musk elements, and an earthiness that doesn't leave. Dry down is sweet, dry, earth/leather.
I enjoyed the experience of wearing this, you can tell that high quality ingredients were used and the transition of the scents development takes you on a journey. Not a journey that reminds me too much of pavlova, apart from the dryness of a meringue shell.
Definitely unisex. Lactonic, woody, gourmand.
It's missing something...
Dirty Rose opens strongly of pink pepper and cedar which develops into a nutmeg and cardamom mix. Barely a hint of rose.
As one of my first niche perfumes decants AND start of my perfume obsession, I used to like this! I almost bought a full bottle; until my dad said it smelt like BO. Like all good BO, I couldn't smell it on myself, but I was turned off wearing it for a few months after hearing this. Funny reading the other reviews that mention this.
Recently trying it again..my scent profile has developed more. And yeah, that cumin-esque scent hits hard after it develops for a while! Unfortunately whatever it is is thick, and reminds me of Zaatar bread I get from my local shops. It also becomes somewhat of a rubbery smell? B.O. :(
It may work well for as a masculine scent, that is not me unfortunately!
I almost feel like it is lacking something.
When I wore it to the shop yesterday, I sampled a Mango x Passionfruit body spray over the same area on my wrist. And wow! It truly elevated the Dirty Rose into something manageable. Are these the missing notes that would make Dirty Rose better? Maybe! Maybe it is just a good layering scent, and requires a little sweetness to it.
I can appreciate this as an art but...
When I first sprayed this on the blotter paper, it gave me nothing but thick black smoke. I couldn’t even attempt to put it close to my nose to try and smell the other elements—I gave it a rating of 1, definitely agreeing with other reviewers interpretations of ham and Vicks vapour rub
Today I revisited it to give it a fair go. Spraying on my skin, I didn’t so much get the overpowering black smoke element this time around, but rather a deeply woody and obscure earthy green scent. It is absolutely not feminine, actually the women around me found it to be very unpleasant.
It somewhat reminds me of birds that are kept in a metal cage that hasn’t been cleaned in a while, or some sort of exotic pet where they use aspen bedding as the floor. And also a mens aftershave. Eucalyptus and citronella-esque elements but not quite those scents in particular.
I can’t say the notes are anything I’ve smelt before to reflect accurately on at what point I smell where, so my interpretation of the dry down a bit peppery, smoky, and earthy. I want to guess the birch tar and Paolo Santo are strong, and there is a fresh herbal, almost medicinal quality to it (fresh and clean like Vicks, but make it smoky). Dare I say it even gets a little bit sweeter as time goes on? Either that or the Poltergeist has taken over me.
I think this would be sexy on an older man on a date night. Emphasis on the night. Or a mysterious business man who doesn’t have your best interest at heart, and will betray you to seal a deal.
So I can appreciate this as an art; because how amazing is it to capture something like this, it’s very unusual. Would I want to wear this? Absolutely not. It’s a very…different scent. But I would recommend smelling it if you ever come across it. Masculine for sure. Absolutely no blind buy PLEASE. But I’ll increase my rating, because while the initial spritz is terrible, I can actually appreciate the dry down.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be washing this off now.
Past makeup cosmetics, clean & comforting
Sonic Flower has a dry, comforting, smoothness to it that is both clean and addicting. The initial spritz is a bit off-putting but seconds later the elements work together to create a personal slightly sensual skin scent.
It reminds me of a makeup remover wipe or cosmetic from my past. I think of going to dance recitals as a young girl and being dolled up by my mother, admiring the older girls, yearning to one day be like them.
Sonic Flower is easily a scent I could wear to bed; it's really cozy.
Quite weak in sillage and not obtrusive at all. Perfect for a light scent day or if you're cuddling with your lover.
Lasted 10hrs+ and it is really addicting to keep sniffing at where it was sprayed.
