New perfume purchase suddenly smells of alcohol

New perfume purchase suddenly smells of alcohol 0

I'm trying to find an answer as to why my bottle of perfume suddenly smells like cleaning alcohol.

I bought a bottle of Acqua di Parma's Fico di Amalfi last week and have been enjoying wearing it each day, until yesterday. When I sprayed it on, all I could smell was the strong smell of alcohol. Once it dried on my skin I could once more smell the scent but have lost the opening fresh notes, and I'm baffled. I have searched online for answers with most suggesting it is because it's old or been stored incorrectly i.e in sunlight, but none of these reasons fit, it's a brand new bottle and has been stored in a cupboard in it's box. I'll continue to wear it as it dries down ok, but very disappointed to have lost the opening notes and was hoping someone here might have an answer as to why this would happen or how, if possible to get the original smell back. Thank you.

If you've worn it every day, my guess is your scent receptors have been oversaturated with whatever compounds are in the opening notes of the fragrance and you've gone anosmic to them.

Try not wearing it for a few days and then revisit it.

Just put it aside for a couple of weeks .

It has happened to me with Leisure in Paradise . I simply put it away for a couple weeks and once I reached for it again - it was back to normal. Take a break, rotate your fragrances and try again later Smile
