buying rare perfume on ebay is a fool’s game

buying rare perfume on ebay is a fool’s game 2

Im looking at a Guerlain Gourmand Coquin that’s New with Box, but that box looks like it’s been used to prop up a wobbly table in diner for 17 years.  One side is all bleached out and possibly water damaged, only god knows what conditions the bottle was subject to.  No returns accepted.  I feel like if you’re rich enough to gamble on things like this, you wouldn’t be shopping on ebay for them. Ebay can be hit or miss. I`ve been lucky to be able to find some long discontinued gems that were in pretty good condition. But I`ve also ran into conmen, who basically took my cash and never delivered. It took some hassling, but I got my money back in the end.

Rare perfume! I think we should buy things we know. A rare perfume would be something that you don't know. When fragrances are from another era, vintage in general, their boxes are almost always somewhat damaged.
eBay is a cesspool., There are tons of fakes out there. I would avoid buying niche fragrances on eBay. You may get lucky, but about fragrances, there is a high chance of selling fake authentic ones.

If you're talking about a full bottle, obviously if I'm seeking out a rare perfume on the secondary market it's because I really want it, it's not available new, and it's rare enough that I don't think I'll be able to swap for it. There is absolutely no reason to blind buy a rare, read expensive, scent you don't know if you'll like. Even rare fragrances can be sampled, you just have to have the patience to wait for a sample to be available for swap.

Buying rare perfume on eBay is risky, especially with damaged packaging and no returns. Storage conditions matter, and a faded or water-damaged box could mean the juice inside is compromised. If you’re not willing to gamble, it’s best to stick to trusted sellers or fragrance communities for rare finds.

I agree. That’s why I do not use it anymore.
