Do you ever have the feeling your collection is 'complete'?
gythia

Perfumes & Brands
... I honestly feel like my collection/ wardrobe is the equivalent of the fridge door shelves with the mustard and other condiments on it. There is no "complete" because there is always another mustard to try. But there is "enough mustard for now."

Politically incorrect fragrance notes?

... Recently discovered there is an independant perfume house in my city called Maison d'Orient so of course I had to check them out. They make bakhoor. They're from India. Everything they make has oud in it. Apparently elsewhere in the word "oriental perfume" means that.

Revitalizing solid perfume?
gythia
|
Perfume Discussions
... Google and other search is getting worse. I've made some solid perfumes. The base sold for the purpose is exactly the same as lip balm base, literally the same product. So it has both waxes and oils in it. But I've also used pure shea butter as a base and that worked fine. The making process involves heating it to a liquid so it can be poured. I'm guessing your solid perfume has lost water to evaporation. I get what people are trying to do by adding jojoba oil or mineral oil but those are both liquids at room temperature the the final product needs to be a solid. If you don't want to buy specialized bases just for one tiny project your best bet is to melt some unscented, untinted lip balm and mix that with it. Lip balm melts easily as anyone who has left their purse in the car in Las Vegas (me) knows.

... Ringtale gythia Ringtale @Lempi, I have synesthesias too, but only with the days of the week: When I think or talk about the days of the week, I see them written in colors: monday is light-yellow, tuesday is aqua blue, wednesday is of a deep, dark red, thursday is light, foggy gray, friday a weird kind of dark/purple red (like sunday) and saturday is gray-ish, light blue. wow that's awesome and it actually matches the names of the days of the week, if you go by their historical meanings which are derived from heathen gods. Monday = moon, moon can look light yellow near the horizon. Tuesday = Tyr / Tiw, Norse god of justice, kingship, and war, married to Zisa whose symbol is a boat, that's the blue color for sailing. Wednesday = Woden / Odhinn, Norse god of the war dead, red for blood shed in battle. Thursday = Thor, Norse god of rain and storms, foggy gray for clouds. Friday = Frigga / Freya / Frija, Norse goddess of magic as Freya and of queenship as Frigga, purple for magic or royalty. Saturday = was originally Laugrdagr, Bath Day, light blue for bathing in a natural hot springs. Hi @gythia Oh really???? Didn't know that! Thanks for the info š„°!!! You're welcome! :)

Reviews - is it too much to ask to wear the scent properly?
gythia

Parfumo Community
... I can usually tell with 1 try if I'll if it's a :) meh or :( The major exception is if my tastes change by the time I spring for a bottle after sampling it, but that's not the same problem. As for art perfumes which are an experience, I typically only get the full experience the first time I smell it. A very few art perfumes will reward me with more the second time, like getting more out of a novel on reading it later in life, but the experience won't be the same. The incredibly poetic responses I have to experience perfumes are first time wearings. Only. Always. By the tenth time I may still love it but I won't be transported out of my self to a full new experience.

... Pengola But im wondering if I want to create something with many layers how does that even work? Do you make the base notes a higher dosage for example? "light" molecules float off the skin first and arrive at your nose first. Those are the "top" notes. "heavy" molecules arrive later. Those are middle or base notes. Temperature-dependent molecules have to be warmed up before they will volatilize into the air. Those can arrive a minute to as long as an hour later, depending on how long they take to evaporate. That's why a good "gym scent" will only smell good after you start working out and warm up. It's also why there are "winter fragrances" and "summer fragrances." And why a scent that smells awesome as a hand soap, used in 60 degree water, may be awful as a laundry soap, where the fragrance will end up in the dryer, and horrifying as a candle, where it will reach the ignition point of beeswax.

... If you specifically mean products with added fragrance, there is something in nearly all fragrance-added household cleaners, laundry soaps, etc. that are sold in the grocery store that I literally have an asthma/allergy attack if I go down that aisle without a good mask on. Before it became a thing to wear masks I used to hold my breath! Which is hard for me as an asthmatic. Now of course I can get delivery, instead, another perk created by 2020.

... Scentedbyte gythia Tauer Orange Star, Lemon Meringue by Demeter I'll definitely check out Orange Star! How's the longevity on Demeter's Lemon Meringue? It sounds awesome, but I've seen many reviews that state that Demeter fragrances don't last very long. @gythia Demeter fragrances are colognes so they aren't really strong and don't last, but I think they're still worth having. I've collected a bunch of their travel sprays.

... I don't know if they actually all share something or it's just the style, like an author's style, like I like books by the same author, yes? And they're made of 1s and 0s. Like all other books. But I do have houses I like and houses I don't like. Like: Guerlain, YSL, Demeter, Fragonard, Pineward, Cartier, Goutal, Gritti, Francesca Bianchi, Santa Maria Novella Dislike: Penhaligon, Xerjoff, Lutens, Nina Ricci Mixed bag: Vilhelm, Tom Ford, Mancera, Lorenzo Pazzaglia, Killian I made a common base for my Erin's Garden Collection, consisting of extraits from plants from my garden. Each of the fragrances in it are very different from each other but they all deliberately share the same garden plant base. It's not quite the same thing because it's part of the concept of the collection and all the notes are listed, so it's not some mysterious thing that only insiders will notice, but I think it's similar.

buying rare perfume on ebay is a foolās game

Perfume Discussions
... If you're talking about a full bottle, obviously if I'm seeking out a rare perfume on the secondary market it's because I really want it, it's not available new, and it's rare enough that I don't think I'll be able to swap for it. There is absolutely no reason to blind buy a rare, read expensive, scent you don't know if you'll like. Even rare fragrances can be sampled, you just have to have the patience to wait for a sample to be available for swap.

Is orange a summery note?
gythia

... Orange is the fruit in the xmas stocking! Of course it's for winter. I crave oranges in the winter, when other fruits are not available in the garden or in the store. Oranges, apples, and bananas are available year round fresh, but other fruits only exist right now as jelly or liqueur. Summer is for peaches and figs and apricots and plums. Fall is for grapes and berries. Orange is for winter!

What is your fragrance profile?
gythia

Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... My tastes have broadened, but I still have a nostalgic love for 80s complex amber floral types. I don't think there's any specific genre of perfume that I don't like and wear, though, except for traditional men's cologne type scents. Some of the components that make up those scents are things I love in other contexts though, like oakmoss for example. It just really depends on the perfume.

... I might notice one because I see it online, and I might be interested in it because of its name, idea, note pyramid, pretty bottle, or my previous experience with the brand. But those things just make me sample. I don't buy a full bottle unless I love the sample.

... Hitchslap gythia I haven't been able to obtain a sample. I've seen some samples for a reasonable price on eBay, I'm not sure if I should try it I got a sample from eBay (which ironically says "not for sale" on the box lol.) I don't like it. At first it's an okayish green stem sort of frag but then it just turns into chemicals.
