Preferred decanting services? 1

As a broke grad student, I have to be very selective about which perfumes I'm willing to buy full bottles of, but I still enjoy trying on new scents and discovering niche perfumers. Unfortunately my university is in a somewhat rural area, so being able to visit a perfume store is something of a "rare treat" reserved exclusively for travel, and as such, I have to rely on online decanters for my sampling needs.

A lot of decanting websites, though, have a very limited selection of fragrances, or are challenging/tedious to navigate. Currently my favorite is LuckyScent, but I was curious if anyone else has experience with some other sites that they're willing to share. Which are your favorites?

Hi! I completely understand you, I live pretty far away from the city so I rely heavily on online shopping. I'm fairly new to the fragrance world so I don't know a ton of sites but so far I'm loving LuckyScent, Twisted Lily and So Avant Garde for niche fragrances. I have yet to try Scent Split and Surrender to Chance but I've heard they're also great places to buy samples!

I've used Perfuum.com, Scent Split, and DecantX. They sell decants in various size bottles. My understanding is that Scent Split is under new ownership. I have not purchased from them since new management took over. If you scour the web you can find discount codes for each of these shops. I'm also aware of Decant Boutique, though I've never purchased from them and cannot speak to their reliability. Maxaroma sells decants in nice, reusable, 5ml bottles. They do not have them for every fragrance. My understanding is that if they receive a damaged bottle that they cannot sell, they will decant it. I don't know if that's really the case, but it makes sense.

I've purchased from Lucky Scent. However, they're only offering 0.7 ml samples in dabber bottles. Other than the fact that they have a large selection, I can purchase similar size samples from many other niche boutiques and get them in a small spray bottle. Otherwise, I only purchase full bottles from Lucky Scent or Scent Bar.

Outside of the US, Jovoy has a "try me" program where you can purchase a small sample. Similar to Lucky Scent, but you will get a credit if you purchase a full bottle within a month of purchasing the sample. There is also Fragrance Samples UK. I've never done business with them, I just know of its existence.

You could try Skins cosmetics, they do have a sample service:

I generally search for decants in this order:

1. DecantX

2. Scent Split

3. My Custom Scent

4. Scent Angel

DecantX is the most affordable while Scent Split has a broader selection of niche brands. I like Scent Angel when I want an expensive fragrance that I love but have no intention of buying. Great bottles and presentation. I’ve found each of these companies to be reputable and provide great service.
