Men’s fragrance for partner, help!

For all I know about fem fragrance, I know almost nothing about men’s. I want to get something for my partner for Christmas but unsure of *what* to get.

He says he used to wear Aqua di Gio back in the day, and he liked the samples of Quercus and Bleu de Chanel I had, although the Chanel was a little strong for him. He’s got a casual/punk aesthetic, and plays drums in a punk band, but works in healthcare so it wouldn’t be something he’d wear at work.

I don’t really want to get him a sample pack because I know that might overwhelm him, and he does trust my judgment. I don’t want to get Acqua di Gio because that reminds me of every boy I dated in college, lol. And it also doesn’t really seem like him anymore. Quercus is nice, but light and very summery. Maybe that, and something else more cold-weather appropriate? He’s also said he likes a bit of leathery/boozy as well as citrus.

TL;DR: LF 2 mens fragrances. BF is drummer in punk band, likes citrus/aromatic but also leather/booze. Don’t want most popular. Don’t want to overwhelm him with choices. Won’t be wearing at work because healthcare day job.

Bvlgari Man In Black used to be my signature scent and I think it would be great for him. It is on the leathery/boozy side more than the Acqua di Giò pour Homme Eau de Toilette/Quercus/Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette freshie side of things but it would fit the casual/punk aesthetic really well I think. Like you said, maybe Quercus and the Bvlgari. There's also the new Bvlgari Man In Black Parfum which is a bit less boozy and a bit more woody, a more grown up refined version of the original.

For a fresh summery scent if you're looking for something other than Quercus, I really like Versace Man Eau Fraîche Eau de Toilette. Polo Cologne Intense is also very overlooked, really nice classic freshie. I personally think Quercus is a bit stuffy and old-school (I'm 34 y/o for context).
