On the path to the Holy Grail
The road to success is paved with good intentions ... sample this, sample that. After I was excited about the Grossmith perfumes, I came down somewhat because, although exquisitely beautiful, they are not for every day wear. They can be sniffed and admired for what they are - pieces of art of perfumery. Especially since the formulae are so very old and have been re-mastered (not reformulated, mind...

That old computer has to go
For the longest time I have lived with this computer because it worked. Worked is now the past. Like beating a dead horse, there is a limit what can comfortably be dealt with in daily use.
Especially, since I got into a mess. There is that "free scanner service" which scanned and found immense portions of files "to be fixed". "Fix for free" so they say ... But, but, why then...

International Flavors & Fragrances Inc.
So happy. Why? Taking a daily tally of investments, I noticed that IFF went up nicely today. Not a bad stock to have, it has performed well over the years. Recently, the company has concentrated on the emerging markets.
Then, I went to the company website and found this:

The attachment to past memories
is sometimes the reason to buy a perfume that is vintage or vintage-close reformulated. Although there is no lack of new scents issued daily. These are modern and portray the current atmosphere of rush and accomplishment. Something quick, something certain, just spray it on and get in step with your upcoming day. Check your e-mail, plug the earphone in and off and on the way.

Grab it while you can
Ever so often I come about a good deal and something tells me, grab it. I am only partially a friend of Chypres but when there is that hidden gem, why not. I am talking here about the current "Jean-Louis Scherrer". Bois de Jasmin describes it best - see this link: http://boisdejasmin.com/2013/03/jean-louis-scherrer-original-perfume-review.html

I am about to go crazy
between my thoughts about the Petition which I promoted and still am in great favor of ... and the scope of realities setting in. The thought provoking article of Kafka (who writes so eloquently) sums it up better than my blog here. My words are those of an average consumer.

International Flavors & Fragrances, Inc. Annual Meeting
Like each year, it takes place in early May. For me it is always a highlight to attend and I dress up for it and wear a well chosen perfume.
This year the Meeting was held not in the cafeteria but in a new meeting room and the Company outdid themselves, with white and blue decorations and fresh flower bouquets...

Those challenging radar charts
kept me busy, immediately. I went to the Public Library and bothered the Information Desk clerk. "Radar charts", what is this? A quick google search produced the explanation from Wikipedia. Okay, let's look. She came up with a simplified book, all about symbols, logos, illustrations and various ways of charting. There are bar charts, pie charts, and of course, radar charts. These three seem...

Guerlain - Resurrected Perfumes - and random thoughts ...
The house Guerlain - at the occasion of the Centennary Celebration - has put together a selection of splendid, but discontinued, perfumes. Elena Vosnaki writes about those in her blog Perfume Shrine. Here is the link: http://perfumeshrine.blogspot.gr/2014/02/fragrance-reviews-of-resurrected.html
Helas, the perfumes are not for sale. However, if I were visiting...

Vintage Lovers - Listen Up!
There will come the day where vintage scents are all gone. Nothing to be chased down on E-Bay, nothing found in estate sales, nothing, period. The vintage flacons you have will eventually be used, worse, they may turn.
So, the perfume industry does not sleep. Replacements are created. The aroma is approximately the same, with current ingredients in permitted quantities.
Well...

What is ist that makes you want to wear a perfume?
Most probably a certain ingredient that stirs up long memories unbeknownst until now. I have been testing hundreds of scents over the years. Only sometimes, rarely, comes the cry, "Now that's a nice perfume!" And then I say to myself, "This is what you should say about all your perfumes, each and every one." So, inside my collection are about five (5) favorites where this...

The pleasure of writing perfume reviews
is that they can be as subjective as the author choses. There we have a perfume and we spray it on. The nose is the decisive organ, but wait, it is actually the brain. With all its fields, its memory connections. Then the author's writing ability to put into words what the heart feels. Or just critically evalulate a composition, talk about notes. The more past sniffing experience,...
