EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Sorceress | Parfumo Community
...Cincy:Hi Scarletting, nice to meet you. You may like this feature.http://www.parfumo.com/Discover/Classification/TypeThanks Cincy for pointing this out. I'm still learning about Parfumo's wonderful features. I hadn't discovered this yet. Speaking of exiles, has anyone considered the age demographics of the different perfume sites? When I read the reviews/topics sometimes I cringe from the other sites. Words like "loveeeeeee", "hahahaha", or reviews that tell me "I love the designer of the perfume but not the perfume, sorrrrry!" just waste my time as I scroll down. When I want a real review that's informational, I'll come here.

I have been.......
by Sorceress | Off Topic
...I have been waiting for my grandson to arrive... :D ... He's anxious and will be my first. My daughter has been in the hospital with early labor, but luckily the docs were able to halt it for her. She's home on disability (which she dislikes) but it's for the best right now and we're all doing the countdown right now. She's at 33 weeks now. How quickly they grow up. I can't wait to see my daughter in action as a mother!

Vintage Thrills
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Yes, I think part is the thrill of the hunt. Nothing beats finding an old perfume that's still in its glory, beautiful to smell, beautiful in its bottle, and of course, at a wonderful price. And of course, to put it on, to dab the precious drops of it onto oneself, is magnificent. To wear the old ingredients, what we call the real stuff, what we know is before the reformulations, is superb. We marvel at the beautiful aromas, we sniff, we inhale, we luxuriate in these bottles. We can collect them, yes, but truly, nothing beats sitting amongst them and opening the different ones and sniffing the wondrous concoctions of perfumers of the past. The new perfumes can't hold a candle to the vintages at all, and those that don't understand vintages or appreciate them have so much to learn. How to explain to someone about old perfumes? They are heavenly to us that do appreciate them for what they are and what they represent.

Which perfume will be your next buy ?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...I just tried Fendi Extreme today and really like it. So much so that I asked the girl to make me a sample and I want to buy it now. The store is a distance, which is why I asked for the sample so I could test it a second time, but I pretty much knew I would love it.I also want L'Occitane's Ambre and it's now discontinued, but my store (which is over 60 miles away) told me today they have 7 bottles left, so the next chance I have to get down there, I want to pick up a bottle of that, too.

Which Fragrance Evokes the Most Memories for You and Why?
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...Shalimar was the first perfume I ever smelled as a child and it has since become my signature scent. I was seven years old and my mother had a bottle in her drawer and had dabbed some on and put a little behind my ears. It was heavenly to me! From the time I was somewhere around 19, I began owning my first bottle, and haven't stopped. It is such a luxurious, beautiful smell to me and I'll always remember it as my very first perfume. The second scent in my history is patchouli. I was a hippie and of course, we wore patchouli back then, and musk, etc., and to this day, whenever I get a whiff of pure, fragrant, true good patchouli, I am immediately brought back to my days of being a free-spirit, and I think of how life was back then.

Comments on perfumes: compliments and insults
by Sorceress | Perfumes & Brands
...When I go out, I'll wear less perfume so as not to offend anyone since it seems there are some that are olfactory-inhibited these days. :( But one of my neighbors (a friend) always compliments me on my perfumes, wanting to know what one I'm wearing that day. She's always asking, and telling me I smell so good. She appreciates perfumes. A male friend of mine, grabs my arm, sniffs it, and tries to pick out the notes when he sees me. He's one who enjoys nature and scents. He'll rate my perfumes, and it's fun. Now, my daughter, absolutely detests perfumes. No matter what I wear, will tell me, "that smells powderey". That's the only description she knows. She owns two perfumes from The Gap(enough said?) that she wears and will wear nothing else. I've tried to open fragrance discussions with her, but she balks and just isn't interested.

Say hello and/or introduce yourself (if you like)
by Sorceress | Parfumo Community
...Hi, I am known on the web as SorceressOfTheDark, Sorceress here. I am a blogger, writing about psychopaths, fashion, make-up and perfume, and photography. I live in the US, in Pennsylvania. I am now semi-retired.I live with my two dogs-a Sheprador and a mini-sheepdog and two cats-an All American and a blue Himalayan. They are all rescues. My love for perfumes began when my Mother introduced me at the age of seven to Shalimar and I first inhaled the fumes from that beautiful bottle. It is still my signature scent. When other teens were wearing Dana's Love's Baby Soft I began wearing Tabu, just to be different, but also because I loved the scent. I began to seek out more perfumes, knowing there was more to the world of fragrance than what television and commercial ads in "Seventeen" were throwing at me. I would talk to this wonderful woman at this old-fashioned drugstore in my city who specialized in cosmetics, and she taught me about fragrances. I believe it is because of her I have a love of perfumes, but also, a better understanding. I have worked in the Fragrance industry as a sales associate in department stores for a number of years, later going on to own my own business.I scour flea markets, auctions, etc., looking for any types of fragrances now at a good price, just to sample them. I find them at unbelievable prices. It always stuns me to find what others no longer want and are willing to part with for a song.I have traveled around the US, lived in a few states and am now land-locked as they say, living in Pennsylvania. I grew up on the coast of Jersey, just outside of Manhattan. How I miss the City, and shore! My hobbies? Reading, writing, perfumes, photography, rescue, activism and writing. They've never really changed over the years.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Sorceress | Parfumo Community
...Pipette:Sorceress:Hello to all. I feel most welcome here vs. the other F site and although I'm not new to fragrance, I am new to a fragrance site. When I decided to join F, I thought it was an ok community of perfume lovers. Until I began to participate in the forums, and saw the cliques. The camaraderie wasn't there. Nor was a feeling of friendship. One could almost feel others being shunted away. Still, I persisted, not knowing of Parfumo. Then, the childish forums began, such as the ones others have listed earlier. On top of that, I would constantly see forum topics such as "Find me a fragrance that smells Rich", "Smells like Money", etc., and I'd start thinking, is this what people really care about? It seems as if labels and cost were more important to folks over there than what a perfume's fumes are about. On top of that, they have a really simple way to find a perfume by notes. Yet, constantly, someone would ask for suggestions on "Suggestions for a vanilla perfume with florals". And I'd think, can't these people use the site's searches themselves? Are they that lazy? I'd read the reviews posted, and many were good, but many also were written simply about who the designer was, or if they considered the perfume (such as Shalimar, for example) an "old lady's perfume" so then to the writer, it "stank", was "gross", or "elderly". The demographics weren't suiting me. I needed to find a place where intelligence prevailed, education was encouraged and warmth was prevalent. I found it here. I love perfumes, always have. I'm new to Parfumo, and I'm diligently attempting to write my reviews and post my pictures so the history of perfumes can be documented in a fashion that they deserve. Over at "F", I couldn't post my photos, either without opening another account because they don't host photos. And a huge thank you to Apicius for welcoming me when I first joined. It felt wonderful joining this community that day and I knew I was home! I'm glad I'm here, and altho I do use Fragrantica to compare information on perfumes, this is where I feel at home. Among questions to the members, what always got to me at F is something like, "I am going on a camping trip, please look at my wardrobe and choose for me what I should wear." That kind of "Please choose for me" thing ... don't anybody have a nose to sniff and make decisions for yourself???Exactly! That's what I would wonder! What do they think when they purchase their own perfumes? Do they just buy for the sake of having a stock collection? I know I myself sit in front of mine and sniff them, test them, etc., I've learned about them through the years so I know when and where is the appropriate time to wear them. But laziness prevails, I guess. It's a mind-set, too of not wanting to take the time to learn.
