Perfumes on Vinted : Are they scams ?
imbafrag
|
Perfume Discussions
... Buying perfumes on Vinted can definitely be tricky, especially with brands like Chanel and Dior, which are some of the most counterfeited. Asking for batch codes, additional photos, and even videos with a handwritten note from the seller (as @RedPerfume suggested) is a great way to reduce the risk. I’d also look at the seller’s history—are they just selling one or two fragrances from their collection, or do they have a constant stream of "brand new" perfumes at big discounts? If it looks too much like a business, that’s a red flag imo!

Pride of ownership

... I totally get where you're coming from, Ceesie. It’s so tempting to go for the so-called "dupes," especially when they’re hyped up as being close to the real deal. But there’s something about owning the original that just hits differently—not just in terms of quality but also the experience and the pride of ownership. I’ve learned the hard way too: nothing truly replaces the one you actually want. Now, I’d rather save up and get fewer, but meaningful, fragrances than fill my collection with "almosts" that don’t fully satisfy. That being said, don’t be too hard on yourself! It’s all part of the journey in this hobby. You refine your taste, learn from past buys, and eventually curate a collection that really makes you happy.

Are unisex perfumes just better?
imbafrag
|
Perfume Discussions
... It’s an interesting discussion! I think a lot of what people perceive as “masculine” or “feminine” in fragrance has more to do with cultural associations and personal preferences than any inherent gender in scent itself. Unisex fragrances often play in a middle ground that appeals to a broader range of people, which might explain why they get more compliments—especially since they tend to have a balanced blend of fresh, woody, spicy, or floral notes without leaning too far in one direction. At the end of the day, confidence and how you feel wearing a fragrance probably play a huge role too. If a scent makes you feel sexy, empowered, or just good in your own skin, that energy is going to translate, and people around you will pick up on it. Whether it’s Delina, a smoky oud, or a fresh citrus cologne, wear what makes you feel amazing.

Perfume Recommendations
... Dark fantasy fragrances? Now we’re talking! You’ve already got some killer choices with Terroni and Black Afgano , but here are a few more that might fit that dark, brooding aesthetic: ⚔️ Molecule 01 + Black Tea (Zarkoperfume) – A cold, eerie scent with a haunting presence, like wandering through a fog-covered battlefield. 🔥 Bogue - MAAI – If Berserk had a signature scent, this could be it—an intense, animalic, almost feral perfume that feels both medieval and mystical. 🩸 Mendittorosa - Osang – Dark incense, metallic blood, and sacred rituals—definitely leans into that Inexcusable Evil / Berserk energy. 💀 Beaufort London - Vi Et Armis – Spiced gunpowder, black smoke, and aged rum. A scent straight out of a war-torn kingdom. 🦑 Zoologist - Squid – If you liked Squid’s inky, deep-sea darkness, you might also enjoy Naso Di Raza - Black Sea , which has a similar abyssal depth. I’d say Iron Duke is a solid pick too—do you lean more toward smokey/leathery dark scents, or something with an unsettling, almost gothic twist?

Floral but long lasting

Perfume Recommendations
... Hi! I totally get your frustration—Gorgeous Gardenia has such a beautiful scent, but it vanishes way too quickly! If you love that fresh, feminine floral vibe but want something that actually lasts, here are a few options to check out: 🌸 Givenchy - L’Interdit Eau de Parfum (or Rouge version) – A stunning white floral with tuberose and jasmine, long-lasting and elegant. 🌿 Elie Saab - Le Parfum – A radiant orange blossom fragrance with great longevity and projection, very feminine but not overly sweet. 💐 Parfums de Marly - Delina La Rosée – A fresh, dewy floral with peony and rose, lasts much longer than Gucci Flora but still has that light, airy feel. 🌼 Guerlain - Aqua Allegoria Nettare di Sole – A gorgeous fresh floral with honeyed white flowers, lasting much longer than most in the Aqua Allegoria line. If you love gardenia specifically, have you tried Chanel - Gardénia ? It’s refined and elegant, though longevity might not be as strong as you’re looking for. Would love to hear if you’ve found anything close to your dream scent!

LOOKING FOR SWEET, WOODY perfumes based on my favs:

Perfume Recommendations
... You’ve got a great list—lots of cozy, sweet, and slightly woody scents in there! If you’re looking for more in that vibe, here are a few worth checking out: 🌰 Guerlain - Spiritueuse Double Vanille – A rich, boozy vanilla with warm woods. It’s deeper than Eilish but still very sweet and inviting. 🔥 Kayali - Vanilla Royale Sugared Patchouli 64 – If you liked the vanilla warmth in By the Fireplace but want to skip the smokiness, this has a similar rich, woody sweetness. 🍂 BDK - Velvet Tonka – A beautiful mix of almond, tonka, and woods with a soft sweetness that might be right up your alley. 🥥 Diptyque - Eau Duelle – A spiced vanilla with woody depth, perfect if you want something sweet but not overly sugary. I totally get why you love the sweet side of By the Fireplace more than the smoke—have you tried Mancera Tonka Cola ? It’s got that rich sweetness but skips the heavy firewood note. Would love to hear what you end up trying next!

... I totally get what you mean about the difference between a rich, creamy rice note and that watery, starchy rice scent—big difference! If you’re looking for that warm, milky jasmine rice vibe, you might like: 🍚 Kenzo - Amour – A beautiful, soft, milky rice note with vanilla and a hint of florals. It’s cozy but not too weak. 🍚 Bvlgari - Eau Parfumée au Thé Blanc – More of a delicate, creamy rice and tea scent. If you like fresh but still want that comforting rice note, it’s worth a try. 🍚 DS & Durga - Sticky Rice – If you want something a bit more gourmand, this one leans into a sweet coconut rice pudding vibe. As for a Rafaello-inspired scent, I feel you on the struggle to find a coconut cream + white chocolate note that doesn’t go plasticky. Some options to check out: 🥥 Guerlain - Lait de Coco (Aqua Allegoria line, if you can find it) – A smooth, realistic coconut cream scent without that synthetic sunscreen vibe. 🍫 Profumum Roma - Confetto – More almond-forward, but has a creamy sweetness that could scratch that Rafaello itch. 🥥 Coquillete - Moramanga – Sweet coconut, vanilla, and florals with a creamy texture—not exactly Rafaello, but close to that rich coconut creaminess. Finding the perfect milky rice or coconut scent without it turning synthetic is tricky tho!

... Dom Rosa is a fantastic pick! That fizzy, slightly tart rosé vibe is hard to beat. If you’re looking for more fragrances with a strong champagne note, here are a few worth trying: 🍾 Killian - Liaisons Dangereuses – Not a straight-up champagne scent, but it has a sparkling, fruity quality that gives a similar bubbly effect. 🥂 By Kilian - Princess – If you don’t mind a bit of sweetness, this has a fun, effervescent feel with a marshmallowy dry-down. 🍾 Maison Martin Margiela - Bubble Bath – More of a fresh, clean take, but it has a slight fizzy quality that could be interesting if you’re into that sparkling effect. 🥂 Guerlain - Lui – Has a soft, dry, effervescent quality with a bit of spice. Not a direct champagne note, but it gives that sophisticated, bubbly impression.

Lemon or orange gourmand recommendations

... You’ve got a solid collection already! If you're looking for another citrus gourmand with a good balance of sweetness, here are a few you might enjoy: 🍋 Gallivant - Los Angeles – A unique take on citrus with a creamy, slightly sweet base. It’s got a warm, musky vanilla undertone that gives it a subtle gourmand feel. 🍊 Maison Tahité - Vanillade – Not a full-on citrus bomb, but it has a beautiful blend of bright lemon and vanilla that gives it a soft, dessert-like feel without being cloying. 🍋 Atelier des Ors - Blanc Polychrome – Has a juicy citrus opening with a sweet, musky drydown. It’s fresh but has just enough warmth to keep it from feeling like a straight-up summer cologne. 🍊 Eau des Baux by L’Occitane – A bit different from what you listed, but it has a cozy vanilla-resin sweetness that plays well with citrus. Also, totally get what you mean about Devotion smelling like a cleaning product—some citrus scents just have that effect :/

Perfumes with (noticeable) Star Anise note?
imbafrag
|
Perfumes by Note, Accord, Genre
... Star Anise has such a unique, almost cool licorice-like vibe, but it’s so often buried under other spices—especially clove (which, yeah, seems to be everywhere 😂). If you haven’t already, check out L’Artisan Parfumeur - Fou d’Absinthe . It has a prominent Star Anise note right at the opening before it blends into the woods and absinthe vibe. Also, Mugler - A*Men Pure Shot had a nice Star Anise kick, though it’s discontinued and tricky to find now.

Do you ever blind buy? Or do you always test first?

Perfume Discussions
... Respect for the bold move! Blind buying can be a thrill, but I usually try to test first—especially for anything over $100. That said, I’ve definitely taken some risks before. Sometimes it pays off big time (found a few favorites that way), but other times... well, let’s just say my friends and family end up with surprise gifts.

What size bottles to buy?
imbafrag
|
Perfume Discussions
... I usually stick to 50ml unless it’s a scent I know I’ll wear a lot. With a decent collection, it’s hard to finish big bottles before they start to turn, so I’d rather have more variety than huge backups. That said, if the 150ml has a crazy good cost-per-ml and it’s a favorite, I might go for it—especially if it's something super versatile. But in most cases, I’d rather finish a 50ml and keep things fresh.

Is "You Or Someone Like You" from ELDO a blind buy?
imbafrag
|
Perfume Discussions
... You Or Someone Like You" is definitely a solid choice if you’re into fresh, green, and slightly minty scents! It’s crisp, clean, and has that airy summer vibe without being too heavy or sweet. That being said, blind buying can be risky, especially since ELDO fragrances tend to have a unique twist. If you like uplifting, herbal, and slightly citrusy scents, it could work—but if you're after something more floral-forward, it might not be the best fit. Since you're on a budget, have you checked out Atelier Cologne’s "Clémentine California" or Hermès’ "Un Jardin sur le Nil"? Both are fresh, unisex, and great for summer without breaking the bank. Also, if you want a green floral with some depth, "Déclaration Haute Fraîcheur" from Cartier might be worth sampling. Hope this helps! Let me know what you end up going with! 😃
