Your fragrance should match your outfit

Your fragrance should match your outfit 2

I think this is something that a lot of people ignore, but when you're wearing a fragrance that matches your outfit it makes the experience like 10 times better. For example: I've seen people wearing Orto Parisi Terroni, (which is one of the strongest and most smoky fragrances I've tried) but they got on a yellow hoodie and slim-fit dark blue jeans. Like they don't match at all. Rather go with something dark and intriguing.

And of course, you can use any fragrance you want, regardless of what clothes you wear or if you're a man or woman. But please guys you should try this a little bit and I promise you people will give you more compliments.

What is your opinion about this? Please let me know!

Interesting thread!

Well, my thoughts on the subject are that, with the matching outfit, the occasion matters.

I mean: I don't see myself wearing Mitsouko Eau de Parfum with a matching outfit when doing groceries or run errands (if I ever would run errands lol Smile).

Though I wore it to work once in a plain outfit and got complimented on the perfume Smile.

But most of the times my perfumes will fit the occasion and for the occasion, I'll choose my outfit.

Personally I feel like an interesting fragrance has the most impact on me when it's on someone who dresses down.  For instance my landlady sent an electrician over to make a repair recently--totally average, casual, gen z dude, jeans and sweatshirt.  It was only when I shook his hand as he was leaving that I caught a whiff of greenish patchouli (or maybe oud? my nose is not great).  Whatever it was, it was well-blended and unusual, and I thought 'ah, this is a low-key connoisseur of fine things.' lol I guess those are my own value judgements though.

Thanks for your reply, because I guess this is also true. I mean if you are wearing a perfume it should fit the scene as well.  But then again if youre both wearing an outfit and a fragrance for an ocassion they should probably match.

Oh and by the way, I love Mitsouko too, but yeah I get why you would not wear it if youre going to the grocery store.

Haha yeah this is also an interesting side to it. I guess if you have the best fragrance ever it does not really matter what you wear— it’l impress anyway if its is truly good.

Aaah, I wear and spray what my aspirational self would wear, as to ✨manifest✨ that dream life. For instance, I overdress and apply Rose Oud to go to class (no worries, I'm not an oversprayer). Something about the classic French perfumery and the clothes I'm wearing makes me want to ace those classes in order to become someone important in this world.

I just had this exact same conversation last night with a friend ive known for 20 years. I started going on about perfume and she was like "really? i didnt know u wear perfume?" I guess cos we've known each other since we were kids and back then we never really used it. I started to recommend her some brands I use which she has never heard of since I mainly use niche ones and at first she was skeptical because she isn't a girly girl she more gives off dark and broody vibes. I recall her saying "i dont think we use the same type"......then I started describing my favorite xerjoff ones "Tony Iommi Monkey Special | XerJoff" and "Cruz del Sur II | XerJoff" and she was like "omg that actually matches your aesthetic and it also matches my broody vibes too"😀

I agree with this for the most part, but I also 'dress up' almost 99% of the time just because I like looking nice, even if the only plans I have are staying at home and doing homework or running errands.

On the occasion that I opt for something simple like jeans and a sweatshirt though, I will totally wear just about anything just so I can enjoy a nice scent. For example, I will 100% wear jeans, a t-shirt and simple shoes on a relax day, and wear Shalimar with it just because I can. Sometimes for me it's less about the way it all comes together and more just smelling how I want to smell on any given day.

For me it's definitely the other way round: my fragrance doesn't match my outfit but my outfit matches my fragrance. What I mean is that fragrances are for me so important that I definitely pick the fragrance first and pick everything else to match the fragrance so my fragrance choice determines my other choices. I have ASD and I sometimes get synesthesias so I can for example "see" the smell so I can pick my outfit colours matching the colours I see when I smell the fragrance or pick the outfit style matching the other images I see when I'm smelling the fragrance. The other way of matching for me is to pick something from the same designer, for example yesterday I was wearing CK One Shock for Her and I decided to match it with Calvin Klein ankle boots and a Calvin Klein bag. However I'm extremely introverted so most days I don't even leave home, and due to my ASD I also absolutely hate the feeling of clothes on my skin so most days I'm like Marilyn: the only thing I wear is fragrance 🤣 But those days when I actually decide to dress up it's sometimes fun to try to match the clothes with my chosen fragrance.

@Lempi, I have synesthesias too, but only with the days of the week: When I think or talk about the days of the week, I see them written in colors: monday is light-yellow, tuesday is aqua blue, wednesday is of a deep, dark red, thursday is light, foggy gray, friday a weird kind of dark/purple red (like sunday) and saturday is gray-ish, light blue.

@Ringtale Wow so interesting, I have actually noticed that many fragheads tend to get synesthesias, maybe because people who are interested in fragrances are often very artistic also..?

@Lempi, could well be! I even dreamed a scent the other night (started a thread about it) I smelled it so vividly while there was nothing reminiscent of that particular scent in my surroundings, very strange.

Oh yeah I have been reading the thread, it's so interesting 😁 I have a vague memory of dreaming a scent myself too however my problem is that I rarely remember any of my dreams or remember only random short parts of them 😂

Yes I like to match my perfume to my outfit most of the time, but it can lead to me wearing very similar scents and not branching out so often lol

I wear Spicebomb Extreme while wearing medical scrubs, so I have nothing to add to this conversation. 😂

wow that's awesome and it actually matches the names of the days of the week, if you go by their historical meanings which are derived from heathen gods. Monday = moon, moon can look light yellow near the horizon. Tuesday = Tyr / Tiw, Norse god of justice, kingship, and war, married to Zisa whose symbol is a boat, that's the blue color for sailing. Wednesday = Woden / Odhinn, Norse god of the war dead, red for blood shed in battle. Thursday = Thor, Norse god of rain and storms, foggy gray for clouds. Friday = Frigga / Freya / Frija, Norse goddess of magic as Freya and of queenship as Frigga, purple for magic or royalty. Saturday = was originally Laugrdagr, Bath Day, light blue for bathing in a natural hot springs.
