Kyphi is an incense mixture that originated in ancient Egypt and was used for religious and cultural purposes. The composition differs significantly depending on the source. Plutarch, for example, lists 16 different ingredients in his De Iside et Osiride (1st century AD). Frequently mentioned ingredients are: Myrrh, frankincense, benzoin, honey, wine, sultanas or dates, broom, storax, mastic, cinnamon or cassia, calamus, juniper berries and cardamom.
