Fatamorgana 1907 2021

I received the sample of Fatamorgana as a gift with a perfume I bought here on Parfumo.
I was not familiar with either the brand or the scent.
I tested it and thought, oh this is quite an old fragrance, it could be from the 60s.
But look at that, it’s actually a creation from the year 2021, how easily one can be mistaken.

The opening is very green and fresh, while at the same time very classic and elegant.
I don’t perceive the fruity notes at all; instead, Galbanum is very prominent.
Galbanum is known for smelling like fresh grass, and that’s exactly how it smells in the opening, fresh and green but at the same time very well-groomed.

In the dry down, the floral notes come to the forefront.
An opulent sea of flowers unfolds with violet, jasmine, and rose.
However, the woody notes prevent the fragrance from being too feminine.

And it remains that way until the end.
Elegant, classic, green, fresh, woody, and very floral.

I see it more suited for a mature lady or a mature gentleman.

Performance is above average, without being intrusive, making it a perfect match for this rather noble DNA.

Unfortunately, I no longer remember who gifted me this sample, but I would like to sincerely thank them here in case the person might read the review someday.
I’m happy to have tested it, even though it’s not quite my direction; still, it is by no means a bad fragrance.

Heat-wavering light: What a summer day!
But what is that over there in the distance?
No, it is not one of the expected oases with small huts under tall palm trees and the corresponding vegetation:
It is a garden: "Fatamorgana" is a garden!

Not an exotic, not an oriental garden: No, it is a garden with the plants and scents we are familiar with, wafting towards me.
Fruity-green, I recognize the aroma of ripe mandarins, nestled as vividly colored fruits in their dark green foliage, and that of blackcurrants, juicy and tart.
A cloud of cardamom spice and resinous smoke loosely hovers over everything; also over the floral garden now presenting itself.
Here, the classic perfume flowers have found their home:
The radiant white, sensually fragrant jasmine in its green foliage, roses in noble, feminine floral splendor and noble woody nuances, the proud iris with its powdery tassel, and the enchanting violet, the scent-bringer for so many generations.
They all unite into a modern fragrance composition with classic vintage echoes.
And of course, the corresponding base must not be missing.
Announced by iris and violet in a powdery manner, we experience this very soft, very warm, and with fine animal sensuality: indulgently creamy vanilla, as always accompanied here by tonka bean, meets white musk, which carries this animal nuance within.
Sandalwood with its ever-slightly masculine roughness must not be absent here, and at the peak of this creation, the resinous-smoky charm of amber spreads wide.

All of this hovers, like the image of a “Fatamorgana,” fascinating and changing repeatedly throughout its longevity, over my skin and envelops me in rich scent mists.

Contrary to the official announcement from “1907,” “Fatamorgana” is for me not an unreal, fantastic fragrance creation, but a effortlessly wearable bright, friendly companion of its own grace: A modern creation full of classic echoes without their powerful volume.
Here too, as with “Genevieve” (see there), familiar footprints have been followed with modern footwear.
The two fragrances I know from the brand “1907” are not replicas of well-known classics from the great perfume dynasties.
They are independent scent beings in vintage garb, without their pompous surroundings, scent-tailored in straight, temporally adapted lines.

Another fragrance sample from the brand “1907” is with me; Azura was kind enough to send me her decant.
Now I am curious about what I will discover with “Mon âme.”
I will, of course, report on it.
