Spring Awakens
The winter was surprisingly harsh in their stone house halfway up the volcano. The stove needed to be constantly heated to drive away the cold, and the wood supply was slowly running low. They only had each other, but that was enough for them.
But now spring is coming. It has been getting warmer for two weeks now, and the snow in front of the house has melted. First flowers are sprouting and filling the air with a timid scent. The lemons at the market were still green. However, they make a wonderful juice with the bergamots. From this, they prepare a tea with lavender and rosemary.
They cannot go up the volcano yet; it is still covered in snow. So they descend to the hilly town above the sea. They walk through the blooming orange groves. Bees buzz from blossom to blossom. They take a break on a bench. Built from cedar and sandalwood, it has withstood the test of time and the elements for ages.
They sit in the sunshine. It is pleasantly warm. Should they really descend further into the heat of the town? They linger a bit longer, gazing out at the sparkling sea...
----------
Zagara di Sicilia is a fresh, citrusy fragrance with subtle green notes. The namesake orange blossom makes it quite light. Yet, it is not sweet. In the base, it becomes woody, and the lightness fades a bit. It is, of course, a classic base, but I find it a bit disappointing; I would have wished for something different, lighter. The longevity is quite decent at 4-5 hours on the skin. On fabric, it lasts 6-7 hours. Unisex, but in the base, it might be a bit too harsh-woody for some ladies.
======
There is also an Acque di Italia Zagara e Sale di Sicilia (not on Parfumo). This would be the ladies' version of the unisex fragrance. Here, the flowers of orange and other citrus fruits are strongly in the foreground. Only slightly sweet with a small salty note. However, it has nothing aquatic. Green notes and wood are also present, but much more subtle than in Zagara di Sicilia. Longevity and sillage are also better.
