Dark volcanic woods - or a bright autumn day?
The sun is just coming up when they wake up. They have moved from the hilly town above the sea to a small stone house closer to their beloved volcano. The days are getting shorter, the leaves are changing colour. Tonight was the first frost of the year. There is still a remnant of embers in the oven and it exudes a cosy warmth.
The house consists of only one chamber. It is panelled with liquorice. The smell of cantuccini baked yesterday is still in the air. According to the old Christmas recipe of her landlady with cardamom, pepper and the rubbing of half a bergamot. This year they have grown their own tobacco. It hangs under the roof beams to dry. Amber-coloured light penetrates through the half-closed shutters.
They open the windows and doors wide. It's warmer now. The smell of fresh earth and wood smoke easily penetrates the chamber. The firewood piled up on the house wall warms up in the sun.
The volcano lies there covered in snow. Are you supposed to climb up again today?
They cuddle up on the bench in front of their house and look down into the valley to the sparkling sea. Another time maybe...
----------
Legni Scuri di Vulcano is a sweet and spicy autumn scent. Liquorice dominates and is spiced up with cardamom, pepper and tobacco. A touch of oud and especially amber define the base and some wood is added. I don't notice patchouli, but that wouldn't go with it for me either. The durability is unfortunately not so great, 3-4 hours on the skin and quite close to the body.
So the name is a bit misleading: it is a warm, bright and light cuddly scent for her and him
