A mysteriously mouth-puckering treat!
Beautiful sweet and sour oud, bursting with juicy bergamot and orange at the start in contrast to a warm, richly spiced amber. Tart rose, creamy jasmine and leathery castoreum soon peak out, behind them the earthy, woody, sweet, smoky and fruity melange of woods and resins in the base. A lovely caramel and black tea-like character throughout. Definitively tannic. Also slightly minty/mentholic from the spices.
I’m actually not fully sure what gives it such a fruity and sour nature, as I feel the citruses and rose alone couldn’t possibly be enough… which makes it quite the Mysterious Oud after all. I have seen bergamot cut quite deep into some blends, so I consider it the most likely candidate, but nonetheless… I’m intrigued. Re: animalics, I personally don’t consider it much until it’s final act. The oud and castoreum are expertly administered. In the deep drydown, a resinous, animalic leather becomes the focal point, still tinged by the rose but lacking the previous sweet and sour intensity. All in all, such a great unique blend!
Sillage intimate to moderate, longevity high. For $125/3g in a beautiful vial, I consider it nothing short of a spectacular deal.
