Wonderful Composition - Where is the Eau de Parfum?
The truth is - most "& other stories" fragrances are, in my opinion, or better said, for my nose, beautifully intoxicating. Honestly. The compositions are sometimes truly unusual, but at times also comfortably familiar with the recognizability of a cherished olfactory childhood memory. I can hardly get enough of them. The problem, however, which they all have, at least for me, is that they tend to "disappear" relatively quickly. Of course, you can't really blame them for that, as at the end of the day they are just "Body Mists." So, real scent WATERS. I don't understand why there aren't also Eau de Parfums of these fine breezes - but well.
Let's get to the actual scent, the Arabesque Wood. Contrary to what the title might promise, you are not immersed in deep dark woods that hold the scent of centuries within their elaborately crafted ornamental patterns. You do not unexpectedly find yourself in Serge Lutens' opulent palace, sniffing at his wall paneling. No. Rather, you have the feeling of witnessing a ritual cleansing. Perhaps observed by such an Arabic wooden ornament.
Freshness is the main focus of the scent. Already upon spraying, a marvelous blend of soft lemon-ginger water unfolds, gaining depth and purity once the initial citrus rush has passed. This is also the moment when I am strongly reminded of freshly washed bed linens that my mother often hung outside to dry in the summer when I was a child. The warm summer breeze that blew through the damp linen and entered into a seductive symbiosis, the aroma of which I encountered repeatedly while playing - that forms the heart of Arabesque Wood for me. Now, thinking back to our ritual cleansing behind the wooden paneling of our Arabic temple, it would logically follow that after the bath in lemon-ginger water, the drying in fine linen cloths, nourished by the hot steam in the room, would occur. Ultimately, with the combination of moss and oud, a hint of mystical wood does come into play. However, it is only a subtle whisper that greets you as you leave the bath, wafting through the wooden paneling while you are still nestled in your perfect citrus-linen world, dancing towards the rest of the day. The whole experience lasts not even a short hour. After that, you hit the hard ground of reality and realize - it was just a soft, cheerful thought game.
Therefore, I especially like to use the Body Mists before going to bed, as they release you into cozy, comforting dreams, the absence of which the next morning is easier to bear than in the middle of the day.
