Nothing about this is sweet.

Look, I'll admit, when I see a fun looking perfume splash for under $10 at Ross, it's likely going in my cart no matter what it smells like because it's fun to add to my collection, and that happened back in August with this perfume. I also read these notes before purchase and love a citrus freshie so I thought this would be fine. It was not fine.

I simply couldn't get past my wear test, because this smelled so much like a men's grooming product of some kind. All spice, a hint of the citrus, so aquatic and I have no idea where that is coming from? The drydown is laughable. It was, as another commenter said, the scent of an aftershave. Honey? Tonka? Vanilla? I don't think this perfume knew those were notes it was supposed to have, but there was also no discernible lychee or peony to my nose; it was sharp.

The sillage is enormous if you put it on clothes, but on skin, it didn't seem to last, and I'm thankful for that.

I'm pretty convinced this perfume ONLY sells for the bottle, which is ironic because branding it as a unisex scent might actually get more people wearing it, it's perfectly wearable by any gender. I won't be wearing it again.

fresh, fruity, citrusy

i honestly only picked up this perfume because the packaging really caught my eye. i'm all for cute bottles as well, plus it's cheap. for its price, it makes sense that it's not long-lasting. you'll need to spray it multiple times to get it to stay on longer. it's very citrusy, I think it's very heavy on that, which is why I ended up not liking it. #blindbuy

Grew on me over time

This one always caught me off-guard. I expected it to be sweeter, or more clearly aquatic, based on it's appearance and was surprised by how clean and straightforward it was-- my initial thoughts were that it smelled a bit like classic aftershave, which is not a bad thing, but I didn't think it was really my taste. I've found a few occasions where it worked well, and I wore it to the beach and the aquarium once or twice just for the thematic relevance of the mermaid.

However, a recent experience helped warm me up to this one. I had a headache coming on and every fragrance in my collection was only going to make it worse-- some I tried, some I could just tell would exacerbate it knowing their scent profile. I own a lot of gourmands and anything sweet would've just been cloying with a headache like that. Florals and fruits sounded too aggressive to me at the time as well, but this was the only fragrance that not only didn't worsen my headache but soothed me a bit. It's fresh, subtle, but still lightly sweet. I appreciate its charm a bit better with that context.

Yes anybody with a headache should probably just not wear fragrance until it dissipates, I know that, but hey... we're here cause we're a little bit obsessed, aren't we?

Bittersweet Aquatic

I felt so strongly about this perfume that I decided to review it. I love many perfumes, but this one sadly won’t be on that list. It was a blind buy, and I can only advise you to try it before you decide to purchase. I strongly disliked it, but we are all very different and it could be your cup of sea:). The bottle itself is very attractive and was well designed. The fragrance is another story. As a true Pisces, I love all things that are marine, so I thought this would be a hit. Not so! I would describe this scent as aquatic and fruity and citrusy. It does smell like the sea, but it is very bitter and possesses a sharp harsh quality. I could describe it as a mixture of lemony sharpness and lychee fruit. My husband said it reminded him of school. It literally smelled medicinal on my skin. All in all, I really wanted to love it, but could not! Don’t let this review discourage you from trying it, perhaps my chemistry really didn’t work with it. And the bottle is gorgeous.
